Crazy taxi is a port of an old game, a Sega Dreamcast game. For such an old port, I was surprised to find how terrible its performance when playing it.

Finding the problems..

I have a laptop with Nvidia optimus, which means the laptop itself has dual gpu configuration (Intel + Nvidia). This type of laptop is pretty common. Nowadays, if you buy a laptop with nvidia gpu, there is a pretty high chance it use this setup.

When using the high performance, nvidia gpu, the game has such a low performance, something that shouldn't happen for this old game. It never can maintain 60 fps, always drop, can be as low to 30 fps.

Surprisingly, when I tried playing it with the Intel GPU, I could achieve constant 60 fps!!

How to..

To fix this problem is simple. You just need to play this game using Intel HD GPU, not the Nvidia one..

Step by step tutorial

Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA control panel.
Select Manage 3D settings.
Click Program Settings.
Click Add, and select "crazy taxy"
If you just played the game, you can find the "crazy taxy" program at the top dialog menu
If not, just click browse, find the game folder, and choose "crazy taxy.exe"
Select your preferred graphics processor to Integrated graphics
Click Apply to save your changes.
