@Lexiconical, no the game plays mp3's just fine as it comes with its own mp3 codec.
So if you are going the manual route, here is a step by step:
1. Backup you game's original StreamMusic folder located here; "Steam\steamapps\common\Knights of the Old Republic II".
2. Remove the game's original SteamMusic folder.
3. Copy over this mod located here; "Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\208580\1682417351" to you game directory located here; "Steam\steamapps\common\Knights of the Old Republic II"
4. Copy the tracks within the "Restored Content Mod Steam Workshop Patch" folder over to your main SteamMusic folder."
I think some of my other mods were interfering with this. I followed your manual install method, and it works now, cheers @He Who Laughs
