Introduction

No idea who to play after getting off Limited Hero pool? No worries! I have a tabulated a spreadsheet that might prove useful to those who have yet to know every hero in the game! However, there are a few things that you should note before your expectation falters.

The contents of said spreadsheet:
  • DOES provide you info of EVERY hero currently available in DOTA 2.
  • IS OPINIONATED, you may disagree with what you read.
  • DOES NOT tell you how to play any hero.

One more thing, this whole thing is not for you if this is your first time playing DOTA 2. Learn the basics, play a few matches, understand team composition, then come back! That said. Please sit tight, as you are about to do some visual reading!
Spreadsheet

Link below leads to that spreadsheet I kept talking about. Click it and check back here, you need instructions to use that thing!

Instructions

It is recommened that you read the contents accordingly based on the background color.
  • Green - Header
  • Blue - Basic Info
  • Grey - Author's corner

Before you wonder and wander, it is crucial that you open another document located in that page.

Very important! Click on it to open. Without the reference sheet, you'll be as clueless as creeps! That document contains notes that will come useful later when going through the spreadsheet. Therefore, you might want to leave it open, but you can ignore momentarily.

Once you're done with "Welcome Guide", look towards the bottom of that page.

Tap that "Main" tab! You will be directed to the main meat of the spreadsheet. Don't panic after it has loaded! I will guide you through the contents. This is what guides are for, isn't it?
Information
First and foremost, you need to understand the meaning of Roles, Traits, Assets and Type. These are called divisions, and are located on the first row.
  • Role - What a hero is suited to do for a team.
  • Traits - What a hero can do.
  • Assets - What a hero can provide for the team.
  • Type - What kind of hero is that? Also serves as miscellaneous.

Furthermore, these four division are further divided into categories, and then into sub-categories. Categories are located directly below their respective divisions. If there's something in the cell for that category, that means that hero can do just that!

To understand categories and their subs, kindly head over to that document "Reference Sheet" and study its contents. It is good to get familiarized with some of the crappy terms that I came up with. Remember that you can click on the blue words to get to them instantly!

Hm.. according to the spreadsheet, Bounty Hunter is a Ganker, who can also semi-carry. He does his job by dishing out burst of physical damage. He functions through basic invisibility and provides a very powerful vision for his teammate. He also chases stragglers fairly well, provide some sort of buff for the team, has a weak nuke, slow, ministun and cripple. However, he lacks any notable AoE presence. Still, what a versatile hero!
Viewing Tips
Once you acknowledged the contents, it is time you get looking for the hero that interests you!

See this? You can access this on the menu bar up atop. Once you are in "List view" mode, you can filter stats! But first you need to get back to the main stuff, you can change tabs on the spreadsheet on the top side instead of the bottom ("Normal view" mode).

Once you are back, the fun begins! Simply click the drop-down menu of any category you want, and you can exclude everything but the selected stat! Hm.. too specific? Well you can also click on the category itself, and it will sort it out! For example, click on "Carry | Support" and see what happens.

Once someone caught your attention, I highly recommend that you check and see if I left a note for that hero, just in case. Notes are located on the far right, in the "Type" division. After that, if you're unfamiliar with that hero, you can click on his name and it will take you to his wiki page! How convenient. I would still suggest that you seek out a hero guide before trying out your new fiancé!

What was that? "List view" mode is too messy? Well, I suppose you can view the thing in "Normal view" mode, although you will be missing out on the filters. You can try compact controls or full screen while you're at it, also works on the reference sheet document!

Bristleback and Centaur Warrunner are both durable heroes. Other than being melee, they have their differences, and plays rather differently. I won't spoil it for you, go ahead and play them both!

Please note that the stats distribution are based off facts and sometimes personal perspectives. You might think some hero can out-carry another carry but is rated lower in the Carry | Support division. Well, you may be wrong; I may be wrong. So point it out, maybe; or accept it, so it be.

There is a reason why I didn't not factor in hero difficulty. To be honest, you won't know how hard the hero is until you actually try it, not being put off by some numbers saying that hero isn't good for newcomers. Anyone you like, you play him, suck as him? Look up guides. Only give up if you personally think you're not fit for it.

Oh, one more thing, the spreadsheet is designed in a way that I don't want to force a player into thinking that the hero only has a fixed way of playing. Sure, some heroes are optimized to certain playstyle, but "new meta" happens, and it is not something that only pro players can make happen.

Chen is a support, he dominates jungle. "He is a ganker!! Come out of jungle with centaurs, kill under tower, take tower. Otherwise don't play chen noob" cried one comment. One day, everything changed when some bored guy find out that mid lane level 1 Chen with Satyr Mindstealer is OP as fùck; yet the spreadsheet remains revelent without changing anything. Unless Icefrog did something, of course.
(This is a pretty horrible example but you get the point)
Conclusion

Hopefully all the effort I put into proves useful to some. I spent a lot (Read: shítton) of time doing this. It all started as a suggestion for the Hero Card picker, but it kinda got ignored so I converted this into a "guide" for newer players. If you have any objections, be kind about it, will ya? On top of that, fill me in if you don't understand any thing or I missed out on something, I will gladly re-edit this guide so all who read may not learn of the mistake. Tell me if I used too much variation of terms, I get carried away some times.

You can also help improve the spreadsheet by going to the "Help improve this guide!" tab on the spreadsheet.

Didn't know what to write anymore. WELP, that's all, folks!
Tell your friends, enemies, families and strangers about this if you like it.
If this goes well, I might update this guide with more pictures for the heck of it.
