Hey, have you ever wanted to admire your character's armor in-game or try and play in thirdperson but couldn't? This guide will show you how to play STALKER: SoC in a thirdperson perspective! [ This is my first Guide/Discussion thing ]

Notes:
- Going in thirdperson will not let your character talk to NPCs, loot dead bodies, or open containers/closets/chests
- If you have a slow computer you may notice sudden minor small freezes while playing in thirdperson. [ It's not really that bad the freezing only lasts around 2 seconds ]
- No, you do not have to start a new game!
- Aiming a rifle with the scope will not show the scope screen thing.
- Works for both Steam and non-Steam versions of the game.

Step 1
No Screenshots have been added for steps 1-2 [ Because I don't know how to take screenshots on my desktop D: ]

If you want thirdperson you will have to go through and edit some stuff in the folders.
Go to: Documents/stalker-shoc/
There you will want to find a file called " User " open it in notepad.
When opening it you're going to see this:

_preset High
ai_use_torch_dynamic_lights on
unbindall
bind left kLEFT
bind right kRIGHT
bind up kUP
bind down kDOWN
bind jump kSPACE
bind crouch kLCONTROL
bind accel kLSHIFT
bind sprint_toggle kX
bind forward kW
bind back kS
bind lstrafe kA
bind rstrafe kD
bind llookout kQ
bind rlookout kE
bind cam_zoom_in kADD
bind cam_zoom_out kSUBTRACT
Step 2
Right below : " bind_cam_zoom_out kSUBTRACT " you're going to want to put

bind cam_1 kF1
bind cam_2 kF2
bind cam_3 kF3

it should look like this:
bind cam_zoom_in kADD
bind cam_zoom_out kSUBTRACT
bind cam_1 kF1
bind cam_2 kF2
bind cam_3 kF3

if you have everything correct, make sure to save! Or it won't work! [ save by either pressing File and then save, or press Ctrl+S ]
Thirdperson Controls:
Go in-game and press

F1 : To go back to Firstperson mode
F2: Go Thirdperson
F3: Go to a Thirdperson freecam type of perspective

Extra Step: If you do not know how to open User.ltx [ The User file ]
First of all find your User.ltx / User file, which can be located in Documents/stalker.shoc/
alright, now that you're in Stalker.shoc you should find 3 folders and one file [ Your stalker folder ]

Right Click the User file and click " Open with... "
Now another window should pop up and look for the " Notepad Application ". It should be listed in the Recomended Apps or the ones below it. If it's not there Don't Panic!

Just click " Browse " and look for it. It shouldn't take long.

Once you have found it, select it and press " Ok "

And your user.ltx file should open up in a Notepad format!

I hope it works for those who have trouble opening it.

Didn`t work for me, the files just revert when I boot the game, and yes I did set them to ´Read only` but that reverts too. I`m running steam version on Windows 10
PS: Do you HAVE to bind them ONLY to F1,F2 and F3 or can you bind them to other keys?

Got that working easily, just needed to find right path in linux.

Aurora-- Try right clicking on the file--> select properties---> then under, I think compatability select "Read Only" ---> check the box ---> apply---> OKAY---> close properties and load up game

Doesn't work. You start the game and the file gets reverted, even if you save it. : /

I can see it from third person but i can't see it from front , its nice but :D i wanna see the gas masks too , etc

in third person, you can't change the direction you're aiming. I tried to shoot as a test, but I shot in a completely different direction.

You also can't climb ladders while in third person iirc, as there's no actual animation for climbing ladders (it's the same one that's used for walking).

There is also a another way for 3rd person. press ~ or `, then type in bind cam_1 kf1 for first person.
bind cam_2 kf2 for third person. If you're getting the suit error, restart the game and it will be fixed. Have fun!
