Quick Introduction
Hello everybody. This guide is made to help people with sorting and categorizing their Steam Libraries. This guide may be not very helpful for people who don't have a lot of games since there's nothing to sort but people like me, who have a vast collection of games and want to organize it really neat, would find this guide useful. At least I hope so.
About the tool
Depressurizer[code.google.com]
^ clickable

This tool is much easier to operate than the built-in categorizing system. It allows:
  • marking and putting multiple games into the categories and Favorites category (This feature was built-in once at the start of the Steam New Interface Beta along with putting the games into multiple categories but the both of them were removed at the final release);
  • renaming the categories (I'm confused about why Valve couldn't make this feature built-in);
  • automatically categorizing by the genre (you can try it but I'd still recommend to follow this guide for doing it efficiently);
  • moving uninstalled/unowned games into the categories without actual installation/purchasing (that would be useful if you want to put the whole Steam catalogue into the categories so you wouldn't need to do that after purchasing the new games, but that's really crazy, you know?).

The tool parses its own SteamDB.xml for all the SUBs from the Steam Catalogue, your profile's categories settings at \Steam\userdata\<number>\7\remote, your profile for the games you own, creates a categorized list according to them and creates a profile on its own to keep the settings. You're not required to enter your Steam login/password, but make sure your profile is public so it could actually parse the list of the games you own and close Steam before saving the settings because Steam won't allow to overwrite the settings file otherwise.

If you're still reluctant about whether Depressurizer could steal your account, the tool is open-source, you can check the code right there on the Google Code page.
Overview
Installation:

Download the latest version[code.google.com] and unpack its contents into any folder. That's it.

The most recent version right now is 0.4.4 so there might be some differences if there's a new version available.

Getting things to work:

First of all, launch Depressurizer.exe. A-a-a-and, that's it.
You can skip it to Actual sorting now.

Why are you still here? Got some problems with the tool? Oh well, I shall provide some screenshots then.

When you launch the tool for the first time, the first thing you see is the window asking for the path to Steam folder. Usually the tool finds the path automatically, but if not, just do it yourself, it's not that difficult.

The next window is the profile window:

1. The path to a Depressurizer profile. It is in no way connected to your Steam profile so you can change the path to whatever you want. It'll just keep the settings there, nothing more.
2. You can choose a Steam profile here. It's better to leave it default or choose the one you want from the list in the first option if you have multiple Steam profiles.
3. Check all the boxes. It'll fetch all categories and games and also make this Depressurizer profile default to load so you won't have to load it every time you launch the tool.

The next tab here is Options:

1. Checking all the boxes will allow the tool to keep the lists up to date.
2. Checking all the boxes will allow the tool to save the Steam profile along with the Depressurizer profile (you'll have to save them separately otherwise) and delete some unusable stuff you don't even see in your Library so it wouldn't confuse you.
3. This option will revert the changes to the names of the games. (Did I mention that you can even change them? Cool, huh? It's better to leave them default though.)

And finally, the Ignored Games tab:

You can list the games the tool should skip for putting into any categories. Ignoring the DLCs is up to you - be aware that it'll also ignore the stand-alone DLCs like Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link.

The main window:

It's fairly easy to understand but here are the screenshots just in case:

The window as-is:

1. The categories. You can right-click them or press the buttons below to create, rename and delete them.
2. The games (entries). You can sort them by subscription number, name, category or favorite.
3. The Magic Button. Automatically puts the games into the categories according to their genres.

Here you can see the drop-down menu:

You can select multiple entries by holding Ctrl and left-clicking. Right-click calls the menu. You can edit the entries, remove them, put into the categories (and also create a new one with them), put them into Favorite and open their Steam Store pages in a browser. Drag-n-drop works fine too, and it makes the categorization really simple.

And this is how you save the changes:

Just press File -> Save Profile or Ctrl+S to do that. Don't forget to turn Steam off before saving any changes or they won't save.
Actual sorting
I decided to make it simple and graphic so I made a flowchart. This worked for me but, obviously, you can change the questions and the names of the categories however you like.

Here are my categories[i.imgur.com] made completely according to the flowchart.

But if your Library isn't huge and you'd prefer to categorize it by genre, Auto-Categorize button perfectly fits the job.

It's funny how this section is the smallest but it's the main part of it.
Conclusion
I hope my flowchart helped anyone with making the categories. Probably it looks really neat now, eh? Screenshot your catalogues and leave them in the comments, show your organizing skills to everyone!

This guide will also be available in Russian once I translate it.
and maybe kindergarten-level Deutsch if I feel like doing it

By the way, if there're any spelling mistakes, let me know.

KTHXBYE

Weird, everything seems fine on my side. Have you tried downloading Depressurizer again and making a new profile?

Sure, here's my profile: https://dropfile.to/qtWjC . The link will expire in 24 hours. Not all of my games are categorized right now though.

This is a great guide. I thought I'd add that if you've ever wanted a text list of your games, I've written a guide on how to do that here: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444067719
