Oil Rig Skip

Oil Rig skip is currently the biggest skip currently in Khimera too my knowledge. Figured I'd make a guide to try and explain it.

Thanks to the developer Syaxamaphone for providing the image of Oil Rig as a full level so speedrunners could tell what is happening.

What is Oil Rig Skip?

Guide TLDR: Go to the first fairy room in the level Oil Platform. Jump on top of the support beam on the right of the screen. Then, gain some height and spam dash/jump about 15 times very precisely to maintain your altitude until your screen transitions into the stairs. If you fall, try and run to the left so you can hit the deathzone and try again.

The skip is a bit difficult to expain. Good news is, we have video!

So What is Happening?

Ok, so here is a zoomed-out screenshot of Oil Platform provided by Syaxamaphone.

See that third yellow box from the left? That's the fairy room.

Notice how the fairy room is at the very top of the level. Directly below that room is the section of the level where you have to move underwater. What we are trying to do is jump onto the support beam in the fairy room, and dash all the way to the stairs at end of the screenshot.

As you can imagine this requires really precise button mashing as you are required to maintain your height for the entire distance (about 15 dashes). You also don't have the camera following you, so you rely on sound effects to tell if you are stuck. If you fall below this red line

you will die. Pulling it off would mean skipping a significant part of the underwater level. I think it saves around 20 seconds to do this in a speedrun setting.

How Can I Pull Off The Skip?

I have no idea. I've attempted it a bunch but i've never managed to do it. That said, i'm not good at maintaining an even momentum when spamming dashes.

I'd say the most important thing is to practice dashes. Have you ever seen people speedrun the EX:Icy Path stage just zoom past the first autoscroller section? I can't do that, but i imagine if you can do the icy path autoscroller skip you should be able to perform the oil rig skip.

Just noticed this guide and I'd like to add some things. Going straight from the fairy room to the EX level switch is possible, but it's much harder to pull off as you need to have a lot of height. The easier method is to reenter the level at the checkpoint right after the underwater section. The best method is to get onto the wall in the fairy room, harpie boost up, and spam dash + jump as fast as you can while moving right, stopping once you hear that you've dashed 16 times. Now dash jump (dash on the ground and jump before the dash is finished) to the right and keep double jumping. If done successfully you should reach the checkpoint room or the room right after it.

This skip is one of the most advanced skips in the game, though no longer the largest, so I wouldn't recommend trying it if you're just starting out. If you need more information you should join the khimera speedrunning discord linked in the guide.
