Hold the Alt key and type WIN
Enable to enable Cheat Mode (A new tab will appear on the bar)
hitting the following keys at the colony screen will prduce the following effects:
Add more colonists to your city Shift + T
Complete every building in the city Shift + 1
Get 100 more of your selected cargo Shift + 5
Get 100 more of your selection Shift + 6
Obtain $1000 Shift + 4
Promote a colonist Shift + S
Town Hall disappears Shift + 2
Turn elapses instantly Shift + Space
Advance revolution status Shift + F7
Get Full map Shift + F4
Kill the natives Shift + F6
Make colonists Shift + F1
See ranking of colony site Shift + F9
See strategy Shift + F8
Set human player Shift + F5
Show debug info Shift + F2
Test routine Shift + F10

Another way to cheat I that I found fun back in the 90s was messing with unit stats. If you go into the games folders, go into the "MPS" folder then into the "COLONIZE" folder and look for the text doc "NAMES", there is a section where you can change unit stats. You can make the game interesting that way.

BUT...

I say all this because if you change the Caravel ships to zero movement, and play as the Dutch - the other European colonies cannot play unless you attack their ships, giving you free range to play since you start with Merchant ship instead.
