Hotkey and communication without language barrier

Markers menu also called Message Wheel or Y Message

Whether your first language is English or not. People have different reasons not using voice chat, not typing message. This game actually provide a function help you communicate without language barrier - Markers menu (message wheel)

press and hold "Y" on the target (character, yourself, waepon, devices or a position on the floor ) .

A message wheel will appear provide you options such as "Monster?", "Not Monster", "will attack", "will go there" etc... Once you click the message icon. The message you choose will shows on the channel(check the lower right of the picture below). And an icon will appear on top of the target you choose. Moreover, Y messages will being automatically translated to the language player's game set for. So anyone in your channel will understand you.

You can also use hotkey communication by holding down right-click
This works like "Y" key on target.

If you saw someone send these message and you are far away. You can also click the name on message to quickly focus on the target.

SPACE to finish turn
Another very basic key is SPACE (finish turn).

It's so obvious but I still sometimes in a game every turn took forever because someone did not realize this. Click "Finish Planning" button at lower right on screen does the same thing.

You are a monster.
You are a monster

As a monster. Ever once a while, I will team up a monster does not know he/she is a monster. The two pictures below tells who you really are...

As a monster, you can see other monster and infected human. Your maxim moving squares is 10-15 (cost 2 action slots) while human is 7-10 squares. (see the comparison below)

Basic rules of Monster survival

  • Don't turn monster in the front of a group human player.
  • Stealth first, kill later.
  • Use Weapon and Devices wisely.
  • Cooperate with monster
  • Blend in

Don't turn monster immediately
Unlsee you are trying to distract them. If you turn monster in the front of a group human players. They may have teleport or med kit. You probably will die without taking anyone.

Stealth First
Observe the environment. Ask civilian to follow you to somewhere hidden or confuse players. Use building or wall to avoid being saw you turn monster. Your main point is to attack civilians and infect them, not to kill players, they will respawn anyway. Infecting civilian will reduce player's respawn chance and give you a respawn.

Use weapon, devices and civilians
Monster lack of range weapon so choose a good timing to use weapon in stead of your claw.
If you are empty hand and discover devices such as "Radar" or "Scanner" in box. Consider take it away and drop it somewhere less likely being found. When you are under heavy fire, consider stand next to civilians so they are likely to get shoot, too.

Cooperate with mconster
Press "Enter" then "TAB" to switch to your monster channel or Use monster messages in "Markers Menu"

Pretend
Try to fool the other players, there are plenty of things you can do:
  • shoot wrong direction (while the other can't see where you shoot).
  • marker wrong locations.
  • accuse someone is infected or monster.
  • infect civilian and change your appearance.
  • running around with civilian. (don't forget the moving square mentioned above!)
,

Rescue, Fight, Cleaning and Sandbox

Except the tutorial in main menu. I strongly encourage you to try Sandbox mode. In Sandbox mode you can choose play human or monster, try different map freely. It also provide "cheats" so you can have more understand on Devices, Heroic Abilities and Weapons.

Other characters in Sandbox are control by computer so they tend to more stupid. It's your chance to try research on the design of the three map game provided. Playing those switches to help you understand these map better.

Three Maps

Rescue
Something to notice. In this map, you will learn you are monster after a few turns. There is the control room in the centre. You can control cameras, turrets and door. Turrets will shoot monsters or someone attack players. cameras allows you to see the areas covered by the cameras. Door can block monster or ... players!

Fight
3 to 3 death match. Human and monsters will start from different side of the map. There is also a control room in the centre. Green + markers near the entrace or base can restore health.

Cleaning
One of the three green houses will be filled with infected humans. You can turn the light on in the greenhouse to detect infected humans. There's a switch in the center that turns on the gas which will infect one civilian per turn. Monster or not, you will likely being attacked by player if you turn it on...
Tips & Extra Information
some information below are collected from steam discussion.

Action turn order

All players take their action together, if both enemy and you are dying and both hurt each other enough damage, you will kill each other.

Some devices like Teleporter, Rescue Beacon, Defense Matrix are described "Instant Activation". Those device will active priority than normal actions. So teleport will often save you from a incoming attack.

Everyone looks human at the begging

At the start of each game. Everyone revealed as civilian. If you are a monster (red circle under your character) , you can take advantages of this. As long as you don't move, you are seen as NPC.

And if a supposed civilian starts to moving right after you killed a monster. It's very likely he/she is the monster respawn.

Morale

You morale will drop if you (human player) shoot a human (player and civilian). However, you are the only one can see your own morale. If you shooting to check everyone. You will likely to get revenge and cause a battle royale between players.

Turrets behavior

  • Turrets will attack monsters looks like monster.
  • If you shot the person activated these turrets. Even if you are human, turrets will still shoot you.
  • If you are a monster in human form who activated turrets. Turrets will attack anyone that attacked you. This means monster can activate and use turrets as well, as long as you don't turn monster in the shooting range of turrets.
  • Turrets attack human player who attack other human. (need to confirm)

Sticky bombs
Sticky bombs have to be attached to a target. If you placed a bomb to a person and this person meets another one 3 squares far from it than a bomb will detonate.

Cameras
Only a person that activated these cameras in security station get vision. However, you can use devices to share vision.

The whip ambushes monsters
That means If a monster moved to a square for attack and you shot into this square than a monter will get a shot prior to start infection.

Recon Scanner and Rescue Beacon
They can be pick up and re-used.
