SECTION 1 - First things you should try.
  • Verify your files.

  • Uninstall and reinstall.

  • Try deleting the game's config file (C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment\Tales of Berseria\TOB.cfg
(This will be recreated when the game next starts)

  • Opt out of the Steam Client beta. (Steam -> Settings -> Account)

  • Try restarting your computer.

  • Disable or make an exception in your antivirus. Denuvo doesn't play nicely with those.

  • Uninstall or disable vJoy.
SECTION 2 - Character moves slowly.
Lower your graphics settings until your character isn't slow and stuttery.
SECTION 3 - Sound only in cutscenes
Try changing your settings from surround sound.

you using a MSI laptop? Ensure that you have shut down Nihamic, that has been known to cause sound problems in the past.

turn off spatial sound and dolby atmos and see that makes a difference.

You could try setting windows sound as follows:
open windows sound control panel (type in sound in the search bar)
select your sound device, and select configure in the bottom left, ensure sound is stereo
then go into properties:
select the advanced tab, ensure sample bit depth is 24 bit, 44000/48000 hz
in spatial sound tab turn off.

A case where the sound was only present during the opening.
Sonic Studio 3 is bloatware that comes with ASUS laptops to provide more options with sound, which ends up causing more problems than it solves.

The only thing I can think of is to try removing sonic studio 3 (uninstall it) completely - if audio drivers are uninstalled during this, just let windows automatically reinstall them. I have no idea why ASUS use it, but it just seems to cause so many problems.
the.jester also recommends disabling or removing a bloatware known as Nihamic for similar reasons if it is installed on your computer.

After about 24 or so hours of work going through fixes, updates and the like, i finally found out a way for me personally to have the audio function, My computer has 2 different audio drivers. For this game, one works. The other does not. The one that does not work is Realtek HD Audio Driver, The one that does, is Razer Surround Audio. The later works for both my headset and native laptop speakers. The former does not. Swapping to Razer Audio has fixed my issue. Should you encounter the following problems,

No audio -
TBFix not fixing this
Driver updates not fixing this
Community solutions not fixing this

and have a similiar audio driver set up to mine

Then you should swap your drivers. The reason for me not having done this until now was, the Razer Audio driver will over time begin to have significant audio errors only fixed by swapping back to Realtek. Thus I had left it to Realtek.
SECTION 4 - Crash When Talking to Katz in Ex Dungeon
This error can occur if the game's language is set to Spanish, as there is a problem with its text files. Switch it to English, and you should be able to proceed.
SECTION 5 - Crashing While Fishing
The game apparently crashes when you try to go fishing with Chinese text. Switch it to English to resolve the issue.
SECTION 6 - Xbox 360 Controller Randomly Disconnects
Try turning off the vibration.
SECTION FINAL - Last Resort
A windows 10 update could apparently be the cause of the problem sometimes. Just try to get to the next update.

Having problems with remote play, the second player can't control their selected character in combat. Anyone know a work around?

Doubtful.

any news on a patch for the game itself?

Yes, I know the list of fixes is small. It will get bigger.
