  1. Dig vertically. When there is something found in a layer, dig into another one, otherwise you may find monsters that will distract the already designated mining process. Concentrate your miners on one layer while expanding other layers. Probably you don't even need to expand them -- don't mine just to mine. I guess gold is nice though.
  2. Give high damaging guys a bow. Since there are exploding enemies you may want to avoid contact and fight mostly in the distance, so archers are your main power, are not they?

  1. As a commenter here correctly said: give a bow to those who deal more damage
  2. And place them on the mountain -- don't place your first archers at the own tower but move them few screens forward and make them get on top of the mountain; you can then go down and chase those mobs who've managed to pass
  3. Don't wait for 100 gold to upgrade the Tavern -- build another one because you need more people
  4. You need around one Windmill per Tavern with upgraded houses -- place unskilled people to catch a fish in your mines!
  5. Don't get low on food and you'll be able to afford to kill your citizens to get some better in replace
  6. First few days you need only archers and one or two spikemen for caves expansion -- I heard militaries eat more food so you better not train lots of them

a little addendum, while you mine you can stumble across rabbit holes, they will give you a bit more food but only once per rabbit

Kill off anyone who consumes more food. Once your population gets over 50, food becomes difficult to manage (mostly because farmers are so damn rare,) and anyone who eats more of it is not worth it.

I usually get the trees near the zombie fort. Usually at around 03:00 its safe to send workers there.

yeah but i use the slow and weak guys as spearmen to distract the armored enemies and the archers to actually attack.

make shure to make your high armered and health guys spearmen, you shouldnt do all of them rather use most of them as miners or farmers

just make your strongest people into archers and upgrade the towers all the way. this is what i did and it works great.
