Beginner's Tips and Hints!
By Nostromo
Aright, I'm an amature at this so I'll do my best!

Seeing as how there are no Guides out yet for this game I feel like I could be of great help if I, at least, covered some of the basic's that are constantly appearing in the Discussion threads.

Here I'll discuss the different classes and what you will start out with, along with more in-depth topics on those starter ships everyone seems to be getting smoked in! Next I'll delve into the General concept of the different gametypes and finally I'll throw out some standard tactic's that have worked well for me.

However, understand that there is a slight Pay to Win element that will allow others to progress through the Perks tree and the grant access to other ships sooner. But, fear not my New Players! I haven't paid a dime for this game and worked hard at being better than the best here!

So without other distractions, HERE WE GO!

Welcome to a Fantastic (if underrated) Game!
Boy oh boy! Is this one heck a fast paced dog eat dog fight! Now I suspect that many of you viewing this Guide are in, either, need of help or in need of convincing that this game isn't complete rubbish. I'll admit, early on is some of the roughest this game will ever get for you. Barring running into a fleet of Reapers or The-Anger in a Beam ship on a bad day, you can have fun here.

Now to get my credentials out in the open, I haven't ever made a guide to a game before so if you're still reading then you might understand that everyone has to start somewhere. I have, however, played a total of Six Hundred and Seventy PLUS (670 + hrs) hours of Moon Breakers, and am a Representative of Dead Man’s Hand Squadron as well as a primary member of the Reapers Squadron. I also have not paid a dime for any of the content in-game, to which many might frown on, but, I have earned everything the ‘hard way’. So I am sure that I can at least give the general player a decent idea of what to expect and why one round should NOT damn a game from your play list just because you were stomped. There are poor sportsmen in every game and you can’t judge a game or it’s community based on a couple of playthroughs.

I have had the pleasure of running almost every ship in the game extensively and have tried to learn my way around some of, what many considered, 'Best' ships. To many people the Pay to Win (P2W) function would break a Free to Play (F2P) game and make it impossible for non-P2W players to compete against. This is both true and false. Like everything, you have to learn about counters and tactics to avoid or kill the other ships.

Also if you want a more in-depth explaination of the tactics and suggestions mentioned in this guide feel free to check out the Unofficial-Official Community site: moonbreakers.forumotion.com . Here you can meet some of the players that helped with some of the earlier development of the game and the Active Squadrons that pollute the stars!
First Things First; Lingo!
Let’s start this Guide by looking at the many terms that might occur in game and in the community at large.

  • New Guy or No0b or Cannon Fodder etc. - - - Typically if you are reading this, it means you. However, if you aren’t new, then why would you read this? Pretty standard classification through all games.

  • Lux or Luxury Pilots - - - Many of the players that use the P2W function are referred to as ‘Lux pilots’, people who just paid for the Luxury ships or only fly them. While their ships are powerful their skills are very lacking and many will only earn points when facing others who are entirely new to the game.

  • Vets or Veterans - - - These guys are the long time players and typically started playing back when the game was exclusively on Google Chrome only. Recent changes and Developer changes has caused many of these old guys to drift away from the game itself. But, many maintain a presence in the Community Forums and Hub. These guys tend to know the ins and outs on most of the ships and are tough to deal with. However, these guys present the greatest chance to learn, and are willing (most of the time) to teach other players how to play.

  • Aces - - - Ho doggy, these are the guys at the top of their respected skill level with their premiere ship. I would classify people like The-Anger at Beam ships, Myself at Mamba’s and Sidewinders, El Tazer at Beam ships, Vigilante with Tracker boats, and Peanut at Bombers; just to name a few. These guys can be helpful or completely devoted to their win. Don’t expect many to respond to you in game and be careful, not every Ace is a good person at heart. This class of player is the most likely to stomp your team into dust with minimal effort.

  • Nuke Spammer - - - These tend to be the newer players that just recently Learned how to Remote Detonate their torpedo’s in a bomber. Usually the Aces will actively hunt these players down and smoke ‘em, because typically this tactic is considered by many as cheap. More on fighting these in the tactics and suggestions section.

  • Beamer - - - Pretty much anyone who is generally good at fighting with ships that use Beam weapons. More on fighting these in the tactics and suggestions section.

  • Tracker or Missile Spammer - - - A similar concept to the Nuke Spammer definition, There are two types of self-propelled weapons in the game. Rockets, which are just straight dumb fire rockets, and Missiles, which can lock onto an enemy and chase them down in a fire and forget design. Trackers are, again, frowned upon by many of the Aces and Vets in the game. But, like everything, they are a part of the game and can’t be ignored. More on fighting these in the tactics and suggestions section.

  • Team Chat (TC) vs Global Chat (GC) - - - Many newer players, and some older ones, never figure out about the Chat system in game. Because there isn’t anything to suggest to new people how it works. Using ‘Enter’ gives you Team based chat, a grey/black text box. While hold ‘Shift’ and then pressing ‘Enter’ will garner a red text box granting use og the Golbal chat function.

  • Pump Speed - - - The rate at which your boost fuel regenerates at.

  • Feathering - - - To conserve the greatest amount of Boost fuel you will have to learn ‘feathering’. The concept is simple, while the execution in a high stress situation not so. You go about depressing the ‘Spacebar’, or boost button if you moved it in the controls option, and releasing rapidly to allow the pump speed to compensate for the expenditure.

  • Turn ‘n Burn - - - Typically used in the concept of breaking off and boosting to an emergency situation, more frequently it’s used in the context that you need to get out of Dodge very quickly. This might be caused by an impending torpedo from a Nuke Spammer or the inclusion of a Missile Spammer.

  • One Hit Kill or OHK - - - This term is frequent in any game that has an ability that typically kills anything in one shot or use. The context we will be using this term is situational, depending on the ship you use will determine if you’re at risk of OHK weapons.

  • H2H or Head-to-Head - - - This is the standard by which all heavy players looking to take damage to their chiseled chin live by. Either Noobie player who have yet to learn how to drift and flank enemies or Tough/cocky players try these stunts, and more than likely die at the end of it.

Umm, Which One is the 'Any' Key?
CONTROL SCHEME! Boy do we love these things; however, it would seem that the Developers might have forgotten to mention the controls in an easy to remember spot.

Class is in Session! 'D'ose Shinie Tings!'
If the Title confused you I'll explain. Here we are going to speak on the matter of what is what, specifically those shiny boats you old folks have gathering dust in your hangers and the ones the kids keep drooling on the display case of.

Starting the List are the Light Fighters, flimsy little paper space planes dodging and diving to avoid all sorts of fire. These are mostly meant to exploit the concept of speed and agility that other craft might lack in. Here you will find the starter ship, the F-3 Mamba, and the Luxury boat, the V66 Viper; others are the F-3X Sidewinder, M3 Cobra, and the M10 Krait for a total of five light fighters.

With All Lights you are at great risk of being OHK’d by the grand majority of opposing ships. Just a short list, the F-3X (Sidewinder), M3 (Cobra), and M10 (Krait) are all easy victims to the FM-25 (Nighthawk) and A80 (Barracuda). The FM-25 is a fairly cheap Beamer who uses twin linked and fired Beam weapons to snipe other ships at great distances, usually around 1.5 k meters, resulting in damage being dealt in 0.3 seconds. The A80 is a modestly quick reloading missile boat, firing duel Trackers, which is doom to all light ships in open space.
Your only salvation would be to remember where the FM-25 is in relation to you at all times and maintain an obstacle between you and it. Same goes for the A80, except here you have the luxury to peek around and check his position, unlike against the FM-25, the missiles take a little time to reach you and you can duck for cover quickly. The main weakness of both these ships would have to be their speed and the overconfidence the ship tends to bring to its user.

So as it stands, nothing lighter than the fully upgraded Mamba and fully upgraded Viper tend to stand any chance at H2H, though I would never suggest trying. The others are either too fragile or too easily picked out of a crowd to try such things. But enough about where they might be found wanting, let’s look at why you’d even try something in the light class like that glass toy called a Sidewinder.

MAMBA NO. 5!!! - Lou Bega
First up on the list is the F-3, Mamba. The Cannon Fodda’! The Scrap heap of Space! The only ship I use to blow the crap out of those shiny Luxury ships! True, it is the starter ship and almost everyone can agree that Starters are typically some of the weakest and most embarrassing ships to be caught in. But, those are not OUR ships!

This is my fully upgraded Mamba, so much love here!

The Mamba stands as one of the faster healing ships, both in Shields and in Booster fuel. This makes it one that can carry itself into and out of a fight, with proper boost management, easily. The healing factor is just lights and sounds on the blinking TARDIS. This has one of the highest possible armor ratings of all the light ships, with exception to the V99 Mamba (My personal Mamba) or the original V66 Viper. Because of its infamy as the Nubbie ship you will attract countless poor saps looking for a simple kill, just ask [D.o.W] BitesBack or ◄Reapers► Birillo. These guys are some of the tuff’est Mamba pilots this side of the Hephestus Sector, and I respect their diligence and tenacity. Both are willing and able to typically grant tips and hints. I greatly suggest new players learn to upgrade, love, and tolerate their Mamba, cause those skills you learn in it will most like translate into being a Pro at one of the other ships! Did I also mention it's FREE!?
Enter the DANGER ZONE! -Kenny Loggins
Next we’ve the fine china of ships the F-3X, or Sidewinder! Careful kids, this isn’t your typical starship, those S-foils are always locked in the closed position and the word ‘slow’ is considered blasphemy. This is the high speed porcelain dolls of space with the sting of fastball upside the head. Here you’ve the Mamba if it was dirty dealing with Sonic the Hedgehog in those Power Rings, where does he keep those anyway? You’ve the same guns and rocket damage as the Mamba, but, with a faster reload speed on those party Poppers! If you’re aware enough you can even out run most tracker rockets, just remember your feathering!

Another fully powered up ship, this time it's my baby. The Sidewinder!

As one of the fastest ships you have to think in using it, barreling into a combat can only result in maybe a single kill and a tail full of space bullets! If you are into diving on combats I suggest picking out the weakest or the easily distracted. Attempting to smoke a bomber with a F-3X sounds ideal considering the fast rockets, but they’ll have escorts chewing on you Rudder if you’re not skilled enough at leading your target. You’ll also need to keep an eye on the score tab to see what ships are running the ‘Roids! You might just run into one of the three deadliest ships a sidewinder could find, the Beamers! One beam is enough to oust your little Glass Rocket, but, watch for those Light beamers the most. They might not be able to take a punch, but, they’ll fire more frequently than the NightHawk.

Eat your heart out Mavrick!
Enter the Vulture! - Pendulum
Beams, Lazerz and Dogfighting, OH MY!!! This Blighter is one of the fiercest dog eaters in the game and, in the right hands, you might be doing the eating!

Fully Powered M3 COBRA! Give it a hand ladies and gentlemen, just not your children.

Who needs rockets when you're running this Olympian of punchy goodness?! With this beauty you’ll be spamming those lovable rainbow beams of pure rage right into the hardest of targets. With one of the highest turn rates this duelist runs the best set for digging in and slugging it out with the hardiest ships. One of the drawbacks, if you believe in it, is that both weapons are tied into the same heatsink. This means heat management will be one of those things you’ll have to live with. But, this also means your main Machine Gun has the heatsink meant for a beamer ship! With only one beam weapon you only have to worry about firing for effect against the lighter ships, instead of wasting so much heat and burning yourself out like the Nighthawk.
