Dutch Crusader Kings II

NOTICE: This mod is discontinued, and will be ported to Crusader Kings III when it arrives.

A complete overhaul mod for CKII, focussed on the Netherlands. Pretend the Holy Roman Empire doesn't exist, and play as one of the many dutchies of lower lorraine.

Considering the scope of the main game, it's understandable that they squished the medieval netherlands into a mere nine provinces, but I still feel that doesn't do justice to the vast history of the small country. So take up arms anywhere in the Netherlands, play as the Count of Orange, the Count of Nassau, or any other count from Aa to Zwolle, as you try to unify (or destroy) the Netherlands!

No DLC required. It is confirmed to be compatible with the The Old Gods DLC. (Please let me know if there are (no) issues with other DLC's, as I do not own them)

Please note: The mod is currently in public beta. It is functional, but a lot of work still needs to be done. Please download the mod if you want to help playtest, submit ideas, or if you're simply curious. I'm currently working on the mod by myself. Important: currently, only the 1190 historical bookmark is supported, please ignore the others.

++ FEATURES ++

Current version: beta v1.0

+ Play on a map roughly 4 times the size of the base game.
+ Play as any of the 1.968 playable provinces (base game: 1.349), including modern-day the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and parts of modern-day France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. All counties are independent, and all counts were randomly generated based on culture.
+ Custom cultures: Dutch, German, French, Luxembourgish and Italian.
+ Custom 'Gezellig' trait with matching 'the Gezellig' nickname.

++ KNOWN ISSUES ++

- CTD ON LOAD: The mod is pretty unstable, so the mod might require several startups (max. 3) before it decides to work. Crashes to dekstop are common, and I'm trying to figure out why it happens, but I'm thinking it's because the map is four times the size of the base game. You can help out by sending me your log files after a crash!

++ TO-DO AND FUTURE PLANS ++

In approximate order of priority and planned release:
* Baronies, based on historical castles and other places of importance.
* Coats of arms (partly done, had to be removed due to mod size)
* De jure dutchies, kingdoms and empires (currently, all provinces are independent)
* Historical borders, titles, characters and dynasties from 1160 to 1500 (currently, all characters are randomly generated)
* Culture-based names
* Functioning bookmarks (currently, only the 1190 bookmark works)
* More traits and nicknames
* More cultures (currently, there's only Dutch, German, French, Luxembourgish and Italian)
* Fix religion, religious leaders and holy sites
* Mercenaries, holy orders, units and wars
* Artifacts
* Technology
* Events and decisions (currently, the game is quite boring and you can't name your children)
* Break up France, Switzerland and some other large provinces into smaller parts
* Horde invasions, like the Mongols, with Germany, Prussia, France and Spain
* External trade routes, like the silk road
* Custom game rules, including council and minor titles
* Complete Dutch localisation

@Salty I did plan to make a medieval Dutch translation as a separate mod! But unfortunately translating the entire game is a pretty big task for one person. I would be down to help out with one though.

Not currently active no; I am awaiting the backwards compatibility of mods in the upcoming CKIII. If large parts of the mod can be reused I'll start working porting it to CKIII and finishing it when it releases.
