It's the feminist tendancy to portrayed women as either entirely oppressed or "empowered" into the same roles men had.
You are right that historically women have fought in battles. The old total war even showed that. But there were was not a single entire unit ever made up of women. It's purely woke marketing in a franchise, appreciated for its accuracy.
If you want accuracy in this game, women should make up 1 in 1'000 in Barbarian armies at most. Never in Mediterranean or Eastern armies.
It was generally rural tribes where women were allowed to inherit land. They still lived in patriarchal societies where it was the men expected to give up their lives to protect the community & therefore given more responsibilities.
Women also worked too, believe it or not. The nuclear family became the more reliable family model during the industrial period.
The feminist narrative of women being oppressed 2nd classed citizens is utter nonsense & Marxist deconstructionism.
