INTRODUCTION
This is my small gift to all people who can't or don't want to obtain the full version of the game (remember demo is free, but you have only 4 default profiles to play with, with no ability to customise them).
So... here we go!
[Footman]
Advantage: Fast, has shield for easy blocking.
Disadvantage: Very low damage
Advice: Put shield on your back (as the pavise shield it has this ability) to protect your back from arrows, learn to parry, because blocking with shield will not give long delays between enemy hits after successful block, but when you parry (block with weapon) enemy will be stunned for short period of time so you will be able to put a sword in his mouth and let him taste the defeat.
[Guardsman]
Advantage: Big blade = easy to hit. Has mace to overcome plate armours. Fast.
Disadvantage: Close to none.
Advice: Kill as many enemies before you die. Go for enemy groups, this class is made to fight multiple enemies at once. Be careful and try to ambush, it is very important that the first hit is yours.
[Longbowman]
Advantage: The only ranged class from default choice.
Disadvantage: Very vulnerable. Relatively slow "reload" speed.
Advice: Climb roofs, towers, trees, hills - stay as far from melee combat as possible. Use your brain, good ranger is always aware of the battle situation around him, you need to know from where enemies can come, and where to retreat if necessary. Be wise with your first shot, because from that point onwards enemies will know your location, make sure it will not be you last.
[Footknight]
Advantage: Polleaxe (enough said), Heavy armour, Вastard sword as a side-arm to get all those nasty light armoured guys.
Disadvantage: Slow
Advice: After mastering this class you will never regret you don't have the full game version. Powerful, versatile - this is everything you need to put a point on this civil war. Timing is the key, practise and you will be unstoppable!
Patch 1.9.2
On November 11, 2014 an updated was released for War of the Roses which introduced modified base classes to improve beginner experience. These classes were created together with veteran community member Kennedy (RRooKK on the forums[forum.paradoxplaza.com]).

Before we get to details here is the video to show what we are dealing with:

[Captain]

Power rating:
6/10

Description:
Fast and equipped with shield, particular class will be favourable by new players who haven't mastered game parry mechanics. Captain has only one weapon - sword, so he is effective against light and medium armoured opponents, yet if aiming right you can hit exposed parts of heavy armoured players or simply use thrust and shield bash to overcome plate armour defence.
[Guardsman]

Power rating:
10/10

Description:
Most powerful build from the base pack - both primary and secondary weapons are fast and provide exquisite versatility. Mastering this class will provide means to defeat opponents of any skill level.
[Trapper]

Power rating:
7/10

Description:
The only ranged class from default choice. Appealing buffs allow player to use Trapper as squad leader for both melee and ranged team-mates. The relatively slow "reload" speed makes this build especially effective on medium and large distances, and even if it comes to close combat powerful sidearm with big hitbox provides an opportunity to survive in most cases (if taken out in time).
[Hedge Knight]

Power rating:
8/10

Description:
Concluding the list Hedge Knight is the only base class with heavy armour. Being quite slow, two handed sword use will be appealing only for mass battles. True power of the Hedge Knight is its fast and devastating sidearm, which combined with the best set of buffs available in WotR game will bring you on top of the leaderboard.

I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. It's all work and studies, been quite busy and... well serious. >_< Too serious as it came out!.. Thanks, Henry! =)

That was a joke. You're one of the very best, if not THE best player I've ever seen playing wotr, with or against. I didn't mean it to come out as some sort of critique, quite the opposite: you do make it look so easy and THAT can mislead new players who might think it is easy to do. Oh, crap... Hope I cleared it up.

Henry, no one is misleading anyone, these advices provided in the guide are logical while your commentary is not. Each and every letter written in this guide is approved by the video present.

White Lyuda, I agree it is hard for f2p players to enjoy the game as it originally was, earlier there were powerful polleaxes (weapon which even historically was one used most during War of the Roses), but then "Pro-players" (or how these whiny girls call themselves these days) declared that they will not play the game because noobs kill them like flies (not telling of course that they don't block and are simply angry).
Yes, this is life, and I can't do anything about it. But I do what I can to help, taking as an example this guide.

Don't get mad because of the game, it is just a game, games are meant for fun, not frustration.

Please, do not mislead new players.

Well, I can't say this guide is ideal, but no matter the quality, no one is invicible. :)
