Tempered Deviljho Minimal Setup Guide
By Shockz
I don't have much in terms of jewels and also lacking slightly in my crafted gear sellection.

However, i wanted to take part in the deviljho events. It did not take me long to find out that the defence alone did not seem to be good enough for the survival value i had hoped for, so i went ahead and tried various tests on various builds.
(trial and error and basically working with the stuff that i had aquired over the completion of the game.)

I finally found something that i feel works for me and may work for others in a similar situation.

This is just one variant of minimal setups that can prove useful against this beast of a fight.

This setup works best solo, but has a pretty decent survival value even in a group. If utilized properly.
(Not dying while others fall constantly, battle after battle is considered to me, decent survival.)

My layout and my logic to why i went this direction.

Pleae note that i did try a vaal recovery setup but too much negativity went into dragon and even though i solo'd him was the hardest battle i ever did.

Still needed the vaal mail though because i only have 1 recovery jewel and no slots left.

Dragon Resistance 3
Logic: not only does this give you +20 resistance to his elemental damage but also adds 10+ additional defence against his raw damage attacks.

Defence Boost 4
Logic: This adds 20+ to defence plus an additional 3+ in all Elementals.

This should hit you up at around 400 Defence, (if you have some upgrades on your gear)
Some of my gear has freshly been aquired today for deviljho so i just put what i had on them and will work on more armor upgrades soon.

Take into consideration that with taking a bit of time away from Deviljho to fully augment your gear, you are looking at around 490 defence in total.

Devine Blessing 3
Logic: this skill procs quite a lot so i decided to make this a priority in my set, reducing damage by 50% when it does proc.(He will hit you a lot and this will proc constantly.)

Recovery Up 3
Logic: This is there to conserve my mega potion supply, and buff the normal and Mega Potion strength. This also makes the normal Potions have more to offer than just using Honey to get 10 more Mega Potions during battle. (Potions now have a job and a role as you will see below.)

Health Boost 3
Logic: this helps a lot, bringing your HP to 150. rounding your max in battle HP to 200 after popping a Max Potion.

Recovery Speed 3
Logic: I decided to add this to the mix when i noticed how many times he hits you leaving a large chunk of red HP.

This also opens up what i have named potion rotation principle, use a Potion for small HP loss and Mega Potion for large hits. Always try to keep your HP full. (This is only a guidline but proves to betters your survivability with less chance of being 1 shot.)

Wait until you have recovered red HP before healing. (If possible.)

Palico
Your palico can be used for tanking or buffing. I tried both and they are both good.

Also as mentioned by ✠ Requiescat in pace ✠ in the comment section, find gajalaka for extra help.

(Thank you ✠ Requiescat in pace ✠ for pointing that out, i felt i should give credit to you and add your advice to this guide..)

Supplies
Only take what you need, don't carry things that won't help in battle.
Also, when deviljho wants a rest go stock up or eat if availible. (Yes i know. My choice though, flash pods and stuff are a pain for me i am old and struggle with too many buttons.)
Confusion is the lass thing i need in a battle where i need to think and react.

This time i wasn't lucky enough to kill him without dying. (The fortify skill buff boosted my moral, my attack and my defence.)
You won't always perform your best, mistakes are inevitable. 30 minutes of perfection is wishful thinking but rarely happens.

Capture Him

This saves you from doing the final battle and speeds up the grind.
Logic: He runs away and falls asleep, either capture him or suffer longer.

Reap Your Rewards

Take your streamstones and get some augmented weapons, i recommend the Health Regen to compliment this setup.
Side note: you won't always get stones so if you don't get anything first time remember RNG is not your friend but it isn't your enemy either, they will drop. (Try again and good luck.)

Completion Time:
32'39"11 How much can you earn in an hour.

I solo'd him with a few setups including a nergigante HP regen build.
The setup i give today is not only minimal due to the lack of stuff i have but, is also the least difficult than most setups i tried.

Bounties
Always have bounties active, tap up your armor a little and repeat.

If your struggling slightly with this build, i highly recommend an immediate armor upgrade grind.
also study during battle, try to figure out what you need in skills and what you don't need.

Example: if you get stunned a lot in a certain battle, you may need to trade something you feel you can play without for stun resist.

You may be able to modify this build more towards your play style with a bit of forward thinking.

WTF this is some deep stuff, you only need a GL Wide, with Guard 5 (Block all attacks) and Guard up(Blocks the grab). Pickle cant even scratch you.

Thank you for the guide.
I'm not sure if it was my countless attempts at defeating the T-Jho or your armour set (I had higher defense but different skills), but I was only able to defeat him after following through your guide. :masonfist:

Good armor set for getting started with jho and learning his movesets. Just a few points:
- USE ADAMANT SEEDS/ ARMOR SKINS at minimum. Together they give you an extra 35 defence. You'll be taking adamant seeds anyway to cure the defense down debuff his saliva gives you.
- Deviljho tempered is actually arch-tempered so don't go in light. Get used to radial menus and utilising them fast and on the fly. Half my items (mantles/buffs/lifepowder/traps) are on radials and I almost never cycle through the item belt. When you save an item pouch loadout, you also save the radial-menu setup + item belt layout for that loadout too, so make one for jho for convenience.
I use Kb+M and I changed the radial menu to the F-Keys - used to mmos so these didn't take long to get used to.
- If you're in teamplay, at least bring flash bombs. Flash bombs can be applied in multiple scenarios to interrupt jho from killing a teammate (e.g. his bite death combo).

Nice little guide and build! I give two thumbs up for including health boost, it's honestly in my opinion one of the best armor skills in this game. With eating a meal that gives you +50hp and Health Boost level 3, you get 200hp which gives you soo much more survivability and you really can't go wrong with it whether you have the jewels to gem lvl 3 or receive it from armor pieces :mhwgood:

This isn't exactly helping with your guide or anything, but you should just take a moment to admire this tempered pickle dying in mid-air due to a boulder.

Other than that, give him a wide area to swing his massive pickle around in and be mindful that when he bodyslams, his tail still has the full hitbox which has the potential to kill you in one hit, even if just the tip hits you. Superman diving is your friend here.

Ignore the eltists, augmented gear isn't necessary it just makes it a tad easier. Good survivability guide for hunters who are struggling and well put together. Kudos Potato.

Recent events: recently i went into battle to find someone having a punch at me in chat about me not having augmented gear, i have had this type of comment before and it always ends with me staying alive and those dying failing the quest.

but this time was diffrent i assured them that i know what i am doing and i have only died once in a group with tempered deviljho.

2 People left anyway, i believe it was because of his comments, he stayed around (Probably to mock me as i died, i dunno.)

Anyway we both died once, but we 2 manned him and ended up with 2 warrior stones and a hero stone.

There was a moral to this story but i can't for the life of me think what it was.
