if you want some interface text to be japanese too, read also italic words
if you want onlly audio, then just ignore them.


1. Set the game to Japanese in Steam, let it update.


2. Go to Program files/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data and backup the "Skyrim - Voices.bsa" and "Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa" files to somewhere.

If you want the various menus in Japanese (does not include names, subtitles, or items), then also backup the "Translate_English.txt" in the Interface folder in there.


3. Switch the game language back to English in Steam, let it update.


4. Copy back and overwrite the newly downloaded English files with your previously backed up Japanese ones

Replace the word "Japanese" in any filename in the interface folder with the word "English".


5. Then just hope Steam doesn't try to update the files you changed. You may want to turn off auto-updating.

If you have a non-Steam copy of Skyrim, you can grab the files from a friend who has the Steam version using the same method.
