What To Pick Up
Everything
There is no inventory limit in this totally accurate game, so pick up everything you find. All ammunition, all grenades, all medkits, all bandages. There is no reason not to pick up everything.
Don't need that ammo? You might need it later.
Got enough Medkits? No you don't.
Have enough grenades? Never!
Have enough attachments? Of course not!
Pick up everything.
When you kill someone, loot all of their nades and ammo.
Increasing Firepower
The most important piece of advice is to kill players as quickly as you can. Both at the start of the game, and in the mid and late game.

While it is not what I mean by quickly, obviously eliminate players at the start.
If you land somewhere with a reasonable amount of people with you (1-4) find a weapon as soon as possible. Kill the other players before they can do the same, or before they can gear up.

What I really mean by quickly is to deal as much damage as fast as possible. Kill players before they can react. If you have to get into a 1v1 with someone on even ground, or even if they have the advantage from cover or you have low health, then you want to have the ability to kill within tenths of seconds.

The easiest way to increase damage per second is to hold 2 weapons at the same time. Make sure that the weapons are set to full auto, if available.

The most common use of this tactic would be dual wielding Glocks or Mac 10s, as they are very common. Depending on your ability to use, or if you can even find, Deagles, Winchester Shotguns, or Revolvers, you may prefer to use those. The trade off of massive rate of fire for damage per shot only makes sense when dual wielding, because it effectively doubles the rate of fire.

If you have to fight 4 plebeians at the same time, it helps to be able to kill quickly. The faster you kill the first, the faster you can fight the second, and the third, and so on.

When dual wielding it is always helpful to have laser sights (on both guns if possible).
Winning Fights
Dual wielding is great.
Having all that ammo for those guns is nice.
But what is better than dual wielding?
Grenades. Lots of Grenades. All Grenades.

Nobody is prepared to have 20 grenades of all varieties thrown at them. No matter where they are, even if the grenades don't hit anything, the other player will be in a worse situation than they started in. They may be out of cover, or stunned and laying on the ground, lightly damaged. Very likely though, they are dead. After throwing grenades, rush their position with your awesome dual wielded weapons.
