Introduction
Hey there! Wanna make some mad runes with little to no risk, little to no effort and little to no time? You're in the right place buddy!

This guide aims to teach you my secret strategy for getting insane rune drops per hour by killing the Alien King in mere seconds. This works since the Alien King was introduced and still works as of v0.8.9, but might get fixed in a later patch, as monster damage is all over the place.
Preparation
This is the more cumbersome part of the grind, because it requires you to do some preparatory grind before the industrial-level alien king slaughter.

To keep this guide short, I won't teach you how to capture monsters or grind to get the items below, you'll have to look these up if you're lost :)

What you need
  • Alien base teleporter
  • Alien King's base cleared (it currently resets when you leave the game, keep that in mind!)
  • Leaf Lion with at least lv3+ lifesteal, lv2+ haste and a decent HP pool (by leveling + max life perk)
Having more damage and haste greatly helps, as it makes boss clears quicker and lifesteal more efficient
  • Gold tier armor or above, resistance runes can help (elem or thunder (iirc, otherwise light))

If things don't go as planned...
  • A way to regenerate health (potions, life powder, healing spell with mana pots/powder)
  • Two advanced semi-auto alien guns (toaster x2 is the best, otherwise executioner x2) OR if you don't have a lot of ammo two pistols (autos if you are lazy, revolvers if you don't fear the finger tendinitis). The Alien King's Drones occasionnally drop Pistol ammo!
  • Another viable pet. If you don't have another fitting Leaf Lion, a howler with lifesteal and haste is an invincible killing machine and can kill the boss while you're afk. If you don't have any with decent skills, multiple haste howlers can help.
Readying up the arena
In order to proceed to the slaughter, you will need to do two last things.

First off, Defeat the Alien King once. Take note of the Alien King's general altitude (he has four positions in total, 3 of these having the same altitude).

Then, prepare the arena by putting wooden (or other) platforms in a straight horizontal line, making it so that you would be at the same height as the boss. You don't have to make a platform the same width as the room, just wide enough to allow you to reach the King at melee range in his side positions.
And finally, make a series of platforms leading to the main one from the ground. These have to be close enough to be within reach of your Leaf Lion's jump.
LET THE SLAUGHTER BEGIN !
Now the real thing starts, get ready to swim in a giant pool of green and blue runes very soon!

  • Get to the bottom of the King's base.
  • Spawn your Leaf Lion while optionally screaming PIKACHU, GO!
  • Mount your wooden kitten (put your pointer on it then press R).
  • Equip your two weapons each in the right and left click slot.
  • Climb the stairs, start the bossfight, climb the series of platforms you've made and reach the main platform.
  • Position yourself at a close range to the King, not too close as you might need room to dodge the Drone bullets if your Lion can't handle the damage.
  • Hold right click, spam left click and your weapon swap key
  • If there are too many drones shooting at your pet, destroy them with your gun while your pet does its kitchen blender job on the Ayy Lmao King.
  • When the King is dead, loot, use your teleporter, heal your pet in a pet regen station, rinse and repeat!
Why does this even work?
This grind method (or should we call it an exploit at this point?) works by abusing the fact that the Leaf Lion pet's leaf projectile attack hits three times for the mob's full damage, but not just that.

In Planet Centauri, only players receive an invulnerability window on hit. Mobs are hit every frame (or physics time tick depending on what the game uses for collisions) their hitbox collides with a projectile (which isn't deleted on hit).
For this reason, captured mobs or transformations deal and receive absurd damage from and to each other, making pets such as the Leaf Lion, Scavenger, Soulsucker, Brutor and aliens (yes you can capture aliens too) ridiculously overpowered.

However, only the T-Rex, Raptor and Leaf Lion can be mounted! This makes the Leaf Lion the true king of pets, because you can not only control its movement and projectile attack (right click) but you can also shoot from your right hand (left click) when mounted, raising your dps DRAMATICALLY!

Add haste for quicker attacks and lifesteal and you have an invincible Lion tearing through a stationary boss like the Ayy King with ease, dealing damage by the tens of thousands in mere seconds!

Have fun and a fruitful rune grind!

It's been a long time since I've written this guide and the game has changed a lot since.
As I said, this worked (like a charm!) in v0.8.9 and maybe still does. I haven't touched the game since, but if the devs fixed pet attack hitbox collision detection to prevent stuff like the leaf lion's projectile hitting every frame for full damage, then this doesn't work anymore.

I'll take a look at the recent changelogs and try it out myself in the current version once I have the game reinstalled.

Oh uh, this works? I knew something was fishy with how enemy hitboxes receive damage, but this just sounds rediculous.
