Some real tips:

1) Don't backstab-fish, insted punish their fishing.

2) Don't try to run away, invaders (usually) manage their stamina better and know the shortest path to you. You cannot out-run them, unless you roll spam with Dark Wood Grain Ring.

3) Don't lock-off and back roll or just spam rolls away from them, it leaves your back vulnerable.

4) If all else fails, equip a piece of Armor of Thorns. If rolled at the right time, it will cancel their backstab.

Don't try to roll as soon as possible, it is how they chain-backstab you. DS:R has a built in backstab immunity after you get up, and if you do anything while getting up it will wear off.

So if you get backstabbed and notice they chain-backstab you, just wait until either you get up and turn sideways to them or wait until they attack -- if they have a slow weapon. If you get up completely, lock-on to them and roll away or block their wake-up. Or better, if they have a slow weapon and miss their chain attempt and start to swing, roll behind them and punish it with a backstab.

Curved Swords althogether counter backstabs because of their ridiculous speed and tracking, hitting them while they backstab you and cancelling it. If you use one and notice the enemy is backstab-fishing, just R1 (Normal Attack) spam while they turn around you like a 𝑓𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑑𝑖𝑜𝑡 and take damage. It doesn't matter even if they poise backstab you, it will cancel their backstab anyway.

As a summary; wait until you completely get up from backstab and then take action. If you notice they backstab fish you, pull out a Curved Sword. This is Dark Souls, everyone will try to backstab you, so have a Gold Tracer +5 ready if you have the stats for it.
