Find the Assets Folder
Where have my assets gone

The Assets folder will be located inside your games steam install folder. GO THERE!

Music File
Search for "music" in the assets folder.
It will be a text file.
Open that sucker
New Songs !?!?!
Add some music!
Put some MP3 files in the assets folder then add the filename to the music text file in the same format as the others

The name and artist will show up in the music player in the game.
Done!
Time to Dance!
Unfortunatly There are no green girls to dance with so you might need to add some Billy Idol to your playlist
Problems
My songs stoped playing after an update!
The update may have over written the music file all you need to do is replace that again.
It may be a good idea to keep a backup of your file so it is easier to fix
The mp3s should still be in the assets folder

My song names just scroll through realy fast without playing!
Check to see if the file extiontion is on the end of the file= line.

Just did it, it works. I might see if other files work. All the game files are .mp3, so I wouldn't be surprised if it only works with .mp3s. But, I am no dev so I have no idea what they did. I have iTunes, so I'll try an m4a file.

Might actually go and write a small tool to be a "music manager" for the game. I'll come back and link to it if I do. ^_^

@ScienceFiction97 When that happend to me I forgot to put the file extention on the end of the file= line. Maybe chek to see if that helps.

Also I only used mp3 files so a diferent file type may not work

I must have messed up somewhere. My ship's music player just speeds through the song names, all ending with a "?", and doesn't play anything.

Or you can use Spotify as background music...nvm...good idea!
