I think the only way is to unsuscribe, the close your steam. Look well in your datafolder if they don't remain some trace of it. Often a reboot of my pc helped to... strange and timeconsuming if you have several so, but this worked for me.
Then reopen Steam, resuscrib to the mods, and .. lot of hope that it works then. Happened also that Steam downloaded me folder with 0 ko inside :(. In this case, just start over again.
Some mods i had to make this 2-3 mal, then worked of one mal.
Steam can be tricky and buggy some days.
