Rift Race

Welcome to the first ever... Rift Race!


Since A Hat in Time lacks Racing Levels (only one being Cheating the Race), I decided to create one. Compete againts 4 other characters at once to claim 1st place!

You can make good use of the Scooter here. But a completely flat level where you just keep going forward would be boring, so there are lots of platforming, branching pathways and hidden shortcuts included.


Things you need to play:

- All Hats (maybe except for Time stop hat).

- Hookshot badge necessary, Scooter and Fast hatter badges very much recommended.

- I also advise playing this level after the main game. It's not that hard, but having some gameplay experience can help. Also, this event is "supposed to take place after the main game's events", so it also contains some spoilers.

(- If you can, don't wear hats/masks that cover up Hat Kid's face. There are some camera angles that make use of facial expressions.

- Also, if possible do not have any music remixes activated.)



Quick story (spoilers ahead):


After the events of the main game, Hat Kid went back home, and the others were just kinda left behind and missed her.

But after some time, when Hat Kid embarked on a new journey, she decided to make a quick stop at planet Earth (for nostalgia's sake). Suddenly, her spacheship's radar caught a signal coming from a left over Timepiece (a mysterious 41st one, maybe?)


She went down to investigate, found a Time Rift and entered it. But it was unlike all the others. It was a blue rift, but all of Hat Kid's friends were there, and they constructed some kind of a raceway. They said it's to thank her for saving the planet back then.


You can hear the rest of the story from Hat Kid's friends, personally. :)



I tried to make everyone have a friendlier, "good guy like" personality based on those few seconds' worth of material from the game's final cutscene.


Mustache Girl's "atoning" personality was inspired by Argle Bargle's 'Playable Mustache Girl'. I really liked the time travelling paradox stuff. :D


Also, the final conversation with MuGirl, right before the end of the level May or May Not refer to what kinds of other levels I'm planning on doing in the future... It depends on feedback and how much motivation/free time I'll have.



This was my very first map created, and I had a lot of fun making it.

Even though it visually takes place in a Blue Rift, I do feel it is very much different gameplay-wise, so look at it as a "Single TimePiece Level" instead.


Finally, I would like to thank TheGreatAndPowerfulWeegee from the bottom of my heart for his excellent guides on using the Mod Tools. Without him, this map never would have existed.

Change Log: I have slightly updated the map.

- Most importantly, the new DLC characters show up (there are like 13 seals scattered around the race track + some in the "HUB").

- I have also gotten rid if the "Shift" issue. Activating Hard Mode and Snatcher's "Anti-cheating Device" should work now even if you're using a controller!

- Slightly updated some old dialoges, added new ones to the new characters, and also added some heads up lines during the race, right before Conductor, Grooves and Mafia boss start shouting, so that the sudden yelling won't be so disturbing.
