The is no actual "stategy" for ship combat. You just get double cannons on a ship and pew pew with jibes to win.
There are some cases where you face a ship you can beat in naval combat, but you could not be able to beat the crew in a fight because of level difference.
Might be that in some later update they changed ship costs. Two years passed after all.
Yeah the fire giants have a different tactic and mostly this doesn't work with them. I should probably add it to the guide.
Your tactics that totally work in every other scenario will utterly fail if the designers have stacked the deck against you with a different set of programming code.
Only one ship can fire on you while running away and only with a single cannon.
