Overview

Some people play for rank, others play for bloodpoints. In my case, I play to survive. I feel particularly bad when my waifu (Feng Min) gets rekt. I just can't stand it.

Despite some popular misconception, in order to survive, you don't have to hide the whole game just to find the hatch after everyone else is dead. In fact, this gameplay style will more likely get you killed.

In order to survive, you gotta repair the gens as soon as possible, open the damn gates and get your precious a%$ out of there. Following the method described in this guide might not get you to pip all the time, though (a) you will survive more often and (b) you will less likely lose pips.

So, let's get started...
Strategy

"This cat is cute and screw you if you think otherwise" - Vigo

Most people out there just want to pip. In order to pip, you have to unhook and heal people. Which is why, as soon as someone gets hooked you can often see all of your teammates rushing to the hook.

Often, this hooking/unhooking game goes too far and you end up having two people left and no repaired generators. Which translates into a gg.

Since you don't care about pipping so much, your task is to carry on with the gens. This means that when others rush to unhook a teammate, you stay where you are and keep repairing the gen. There are some exceptions of course but you get the idea. Unhooking a survivor (a) distracts you from reparing and (b) takes time and (c) will often result in the killer chasing you, making you lose even more time.

Why do people rush to unhook their teammates? I guess some people just want the bloodpoints from the hooking/unhooking and chase. Others are new and they don't understand that you cannot run away from the killer forever. Eventually, you will get caught and run out of lives. Whatever is the case, if you want to survive, your job is to ensure that time works against the killer.

Often, I find myself repairing three or even four generators in a game. If your teammates are good, they will keep the killer busy, though it's your responsibility to stay alive and safe.

How? Let's take a look...
Which Gens to Repair First

In this very rough and very inaccurate sketch of the MacMillan Estate map, we can see that we have seven gens to choose from. If you decide to carry on with repairing generators, you gotta know which ones to repair first and which ones to leave for last.

You see, most people just start repairing the generator they have spawned close too. This is a mistake because this often leads to people repairing all of the remote generators and leaving the hardest ones for the end game.

In a perfect world, you should be repairing G1, G2, G5 and G6 first and leave G3, G4 and G7 for the last. This means that when there will be only one generator left to be repaired, the killer will have a hard time patrolling the three remaining gens. One little distraction and the killer is screwed - gens are up and running, gates are powered, survivors are on their way out.

How to Deal With the Killer

"U see this boi. What do you do?" - Vigo's Journal

Say, you are playing with randoms and as usual. There is no teamwork since those folks are focused on pipping. This means that at some point they have to unhook their teammates and get some boldness points by letting the killer chase them.

This means that often, you don't have to distract the killer. Do your job, be stealthy, play it safe and repair the gens.

While there are a bunch of people who survive thanks to their aggresive and bold gameplay, you probably would want to go for stealth instead. Try to avoid direct contact with the killer. In the short run, this will give you more time to repair since you will not be wasting time being chased. In the long run, this will often ensure that you will not be getting hooked during the match, which is really cool considering how many facecampers we have here.

TL:DR - Play it safe, be stealthy, don't get caught. Learn how to escape the killer but don't rely on your pallet flipping skills. You might be facing a lagger, a facecamper or a very experienced killer.

Reasons why getting caught might lead you to being sacrificed:
  • Facecampers
  • Old-school pippers who unhook you in front of the killer
  • Teammates not willing to unhook you for X reason
  • Memento Mori

Loadout Ideas

"Who thought that adding spiders to the game was a good idea?" - Vigo's Journal

Personally I like to balance stealth with the ability to run away from the killer. The following loadout might look a bit generic, though the purpose of it is actually to let you have an edge in any situation, whether it's stealth or escaping the killer. None of those abilities require you to purchase a DLC which might be a good thing for you.
Here is the loadout I'd recommend you to use:

Urban Evasion
Great all-around perk, essential for a sneky snek gameplay, Urban Evasion is probably the first perk you should go for if you're starting from scratch. Even when you don't se the killer nearby, it's still a good idea to crunch instead of sprinting. Crunching makes it harder for the killer to notice you by accident.

Lightweight
This one is a universal perk, emaning you can get it quite early on. Its effects are quite hard to quantize, though from personal experience, Lightweight allows me to escape more often. In most of the cases, losing the killer from sight will result in a successful escape if you are using this perk. Just hide under a bush for 20 seconds and enjoy the view of the killer heading the wrong direction.

Premonition
Yet another universal perk, Premonition is a must for a stealthy strategy. It allows you to spot the killer from afar and crouch away from the gen in time, leaving no traces. Enjoy the view of the killer desperately looking around the gen and finally giving up on you. Premonition is also great when you are playing against Freddy and the Wraith. Overall, I'd say it's a very handy perk, even if you play aggressively.

Sprint Burst
Native to Meg Thomas, Sprint Burst is a great way of putting some distance between you and the killer. Often, especially if the guy is on a rush, he will not bother going after you. Otherwise, it still helps you to reach a pallet or window quickly. Besides, it's a good idea to use sprint burst to relocate fast to the next gen after you've repaired one. Some killers go straight to the freshly repaired gens in hopes of finding their next victim there.

TL : DR
  • Strategy: Stealth
  • Focus: Generators
  • Unhooking teammates: Only when nobody else can do it
  • Make sure you leave the most remote generators for the end game

  • Loadout:
  • Urban Evasion
  • Lightweight
  • Premonition
  • Sprint Burst

There's a thing to be said about getting comfortable with the game, both mindgames and map knowledge by the time you get UV and SB as that's potentially 20 hours in for a newer player.
