Brawlhalla has 2 different types of attacks with 4 different directions in which you can direct those attacks.

The first type of attack you can use is your light attack. As you can assume by the name it's an attack that you can use that is usually faster and has less recovery frames than the second attack that I am going to talk about, which is the Heavy attack. Heavy attacks are mainly used in Brawlhalla as a hard read punish, or a risk you take to get a kill.

BOTH of these types of attacks are useful for each character in some way.

Light attacks are the core attacks you will use throughout the game. Each different weapon has a different set of attacks. You pretty much will be using these attacks as a combo tool together. For example, with the Sword you can use a Down Light and then a Side Air (Side light in the air) as a true combo; however, if you're in a low elo such as tin, bronze, or silver you won't need combos AS much. You can just kinda use random light attacks, and if your opponent is dumb enough they will fall for the same thing and call "SPAM" at the end of a match.

Many players in a higher elo don't use Heavy attacks as much unless their opponent keeps falling for the same thing, and they are typically used for a hard read and/or kill move when the opponent has taken a lot of damage.

In a lower elo, you can have some fun with sigs, and by FUN I mean you pick and character you want, go into ranked, and keep throwing out sigs until your opponent either rage quits, or beats you and calls you "SPAMMER" at the end of a match.

To prepare you for ranked you should DEFINETELY take advantage of the Training Room mechanic in Brawlhalla. Here you can test out hitboxes, character attacks, combos, and so much more!

Using the training room will make basic mechanics you usually mess up on become muscle memory.
Trust me, it helps.

You should also play a wide variety of characters, so when you play against a character your main struggles with you can switch to a character that is easier to play and defeat your opponent.
