I have played the game the same day I post this review, optimization issues involve multiplayer servers only.

At its current state there are some optimization issues. They must have introduced an update that un-optimized the game. I have played the game at high settings at 60+ fps before without a problem with an average GPU. An update must have caused a de-optimization creating a large issue. However single player mode had no optimization issues at all.

To clear up a lot of the bad reviews in this game: Yes it is more of an alpha and the gameplay lacks in certain aspects, but there are plenty of things to do/explore. There are various "dungeons" on the map with enemies inside and a boss and the lore behind the last "large worm" is interesting. Ammo actually means something until you get the skill to make more ammo, so dont go around wasting every shot. There are pvp and pve servers. This game IS hard. Think about the situation you are in... You crash landed on an unknown planet with next to NO resources. Its not supposed to be EASY, its supposed to be HARD.

In terms of finding each other if playing with a friend, all you have to do is select the map tool and find what coordinates you are at, simple. In terms of using each others buildings or tools, you need to create a colony and invite your friends to it, simple.

Oh, night time? TURN YOUR FLASHLIGHT ON, SIMPLE.

In terms of the large worm that pops out and kills you, run in a specific direction and it will miss you, simple.

In terms of large scale mapping, you just need to create a beacon and you place it where you want to keep track, simple. To find said beacon you equip the map tool and click to switch your waypoint to it, simple.

In short a lot of the "problems" people are having are because they lack any sense of common sense and are too lazy to spend 8 minutes figuring out how to do stuff for the first time in the game.

And by the way the devs ARE in fact actively making changes/updates to the game, as I talk to them ALL the time about changes/future updates.
Starting Gameplay
Osiris basically starts you off crash landing in your pod on an unknown planet, with alien creatures. You wake up with a tear in your suit (which is the tutorial for patching up your suit), and you have to then eject from the pod. There are various supplies around your crashed pod that you pick up. There is a suitable tutorial for all of the basic survival stuff. The "missions" serve as the tutorials for various actions.
Character Creation
Character creation is great and they have only made it better. Now that they have multiple classes it makes sense to choose specifically which class suits your purpose. There are FOUR different classes each with their own initial bonus and different starting gear. All 4 start with at least a pistol as a gun.

- SCIENTIST is exactly how it sounds. You start out with bonus points in the science skill tree (I'll explain the skill tree later in the review) as well as starting with a better pickaxe type tool to harvest resources more efficiently than the other classes. (That tool can be created later through the combat skill tree)

- ENGINEER is also exactly how it sounds. You start with bonus points in engineering and have a better hammer type tool.

- MARINE starts with bonus combat points as well as an assault rifle instead of just a pistol.

- RANGER is a combination of the classes. As a ranger might be it has bonuse points in all 3 skill trees, but not as much as a specialty class.
Combat
When it comes to combat, server lag CAN be an issue sometimes, but I have had less server lag during combat than I have had lag during combat. Its not really as big of a problem as people are making it out to be... Ammo is important as you dont want to waste all the ammo you have before you get enough resources to start making ammo again. Combat is enjoyable as the creatures mindlessly persue you to kill you... because... they are creatures... NOT an intelligent species...
- Gun gameplay works fine, you just have to figure out how to aim right (which isnt hard...)
- Lots of people underestimate or dont care about melee weapons. They do a LOT of damage to alien creatures.
Base Building
The base building aspect of Osiris is AMAZING. One of the best systems I have seen in a game like this. Back in the day they only had habitats to build and you had to build onto that with other habitats. Now they have all different kinds of walls and you can build a base using just walls if you wanted to. You can stack habitats (circular bases) on top of each other with an elevator inside (cool addition). You can build turrets to protect your base, energy fields to protect it from ranged attacks, and most importantly, vehicles. I will admit until the hover craft is unlocked traveling in this game can get a little annoying. But that will make you work that much harder at building the hover craft. You see tons of different kinds of bases nowadays which is cool because they used to all look the same.
Survival
Food and water is needed, although you do start off with some from your pod. In order to get adequate food, you have to search for berry trees, kill aliens for meat to cook, or start farming. Hydration is not as hard to keep up as people are making it out to be as you start with glass canisters, can find glass canisters in the dungeons, and if you have ONE glass canister you can refill it with tree sap and it works the same. Food is easy to come by, you just have to explore a little bit.
Skill Trees
The skill tree system is very well made. This is where specialization with friends is VERY helpful. You ideally would want an engineer, scientist, and marine in the group, each going down their own skill tree lines providing the unlocked resources for the other characters. You gain more skill points in that skill line by DOING that skill, ie. Combat gets you combat points, building stuff gets you engineering points, farming/water/gas collecting generally gets you science points. Working together in that aspect makes your quality of life on an unknown planet that much better.
Conclusion
The game itsself is very enjoyable. It presents a bit of curiosity and lonely exploration greeted by angry aliens and survival tactics. Once you start traveling between planets, it only gets better. However, a large reason that there is an optimization issue is that they have SO many servers. They need to take away a lot of servers and they need to create larger single servers instead of 50+ servers per region. I have enjoyed this game throughout its developement and I cant wait for them to keep releasing content, as I will definitely come back to this game continuously.
Pro/Con
PRO
+ Atmosphere is breathtaking
+ Movement is realistic
+ Base building is amazing and really only limited by imagination
+ Great skill trees and late game content from skill trees
+ Class system helps specialize early game, speeding up researching and base building
+ Enemies are hard, making game enjoyable
+ Planetary travel is cool
+ Starting planet map is very large
+ Server settings allow for customization of servers
+ Character customization is pretty well made

CON
- Optimization issues (only at the moment and only on multiplayer servers)
- Not much to actually do after everything has been researched, other than traveling to other planets or PvP
- Too many servers
- Cant kill large sand worm :D
- Movement CAN be wonky at times, but generally movement is not bad
