This is a supplement to the included walkthrough. It's an addition of other information I've found to be useful as I've been playing X:BTF. It's an attempt to bring together the most useful information and compile it in one location.

Where to start first and other helpful resources

Walkthroughs:
The very first thing you should do is start with the included walkthrough in the steam files. You can find the walkthrough located here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\X Beyond the Frontier

It contains the English walkthrough. If you can read German I would recommend looking at the walkthrough by Henker here:

It seems to be the most complete and even if you can't read German it can still come in handy at times if you take the time to look it over.

These Steam links were broken and I couldn't find the original discussions I used but I'm leaving them just in case.
The forums has a list of all the controls that can't be found in game. Not all the controls are listed in the first post so going over it is advised. Things like docking and the ecliptic projector are under spoiler tags on the second page:

Thanks for the heads up. I found a new map since the old one is no longer working. I'll see if I can find a new link for the controls but I'll strike it out for now. Anything that does not have a strike line through it is working.

just wanna say this keyboard layout is not for X-BTF but for X-T and later
You do not have a Strafe Drive in BTF and also no map keys and some other stuff that's different

I didn't see this shortcut up there however when you're buying selling - you can buy all or sell all by using the page up/page down keys rather than the left and right arrow keys.
