I would probably just use my sakura mod, and replace the texture with a rose petal, the fact that there would only be one petal probably wouldn't be noticeable. Here's that if you want to try the easy way first :)

I want to replace flowers with roses
I have 3 materials of roses, imitating your materials, they cannot appear randomly but squeezed into one material.
What is the name that controls this effect?
The flowers are being randomly selected using a technique for particles, so it wouldn't work for a character texture. What are you trying to do exactly?
