Join Server Command
Open up console and type
bind "Key" "toggleconsole;connect server-ip"

Example:
bind "F8" "toggleconsole;connect 192.223.31.191:27015"

This fires a command when you press a key that will open up the console and connect to the given IP.
Servers
You of course need the server-IP in order to connect. You can commonly find them on the group page of the server or ask an admin.

Activating Game Console
In the game lobby click options. Search for keyboard/mouse and click it. Look for "allow developer console" and enable it. This will allow you to use console both in the main menu and in-game.

but if your gonna do that then i find most players would rather just join the steam group for whatever server they wanna use and pick it from the lobby by changing the server type to steam group server and starting the match as the lobby leader they will get to choose, as long as the other players dont vote to start cuz if it counts down in l4d2 it will pick a random steam group server

cuz that way only takes a second and mainly cuz in l4d2 most players have a few steam group dedicated servers they use cuz the official dedicated servers cant use the workshop campaigns, and not all the steam group servers have all the workshop campaigns installed so you have to pick one for which map your playing, so after a few binded ip commands it would be easy to lose track of which goes to which server and which server has which maps

but definitely a good idea if you have a few servers you use a lot so nice call

this is a pretty good idea for counter strike and other games but im not sure about l4d2, cuz if you connect to a server with the "connect 000.00.00.000:00000" console command in l4d2 it wont show the map for the server in the matchmaking area so you wont find any public players joining, unless you playing a friends only match then it doesnt matter cuz they can just connect the same way, but you have to connect from a lobby in l4d2 to allow players to see the game your in when they are in l4d2 too so you need to use the "mm_dedicated_force_servers 000.00.00.000:00000" command to make it so when you start a lobby match it connects to that server 1st if its not being used
