Introduction.
  • · Welcome to Game Dev Studio, an unique experience in this game genre.

This guide will provide you some basic tips that may be confusing to you at start, but will totally help you throughout your gametime and experience. I hope you all like this guide and find it helpful!

If you still got any doubts after reading it, I'll answer everything I can.
Building your first office with max efficiency!
  • Here we are, building your very own first office in Story mode. The game itself will show you how to start building, and the controls are shown on screen.

My first tip is to max out your first office. It won't be that expensive at first, and you'll easy recover that money in your first game. So... let's max this out by expanding our office!

    Nice!

  • The first thing you should do is build your own restroom
.I recommend a 2x2 space in a corner of your building. Toilets can just be used by 14 employees, so if you have an office with more than those you'll have to build another one. Anyways, it doesnt matter because we'll just put 12 workplaces for 12 different employees in this office.

  • Build two walls from the bathroom, and place the toilet and sink facing where there isn't a wall like shown in this photo.

This way, you can easily build any restroom, and it will never be trouble for you. Close the restroom with a wall and a door and you have already built the best space a human ever needs.

  • Now, let's build a water dispenser, a must have in your office!

Your employees can work without food, because food in the game just gives a boost and it's not obligatory to provide them any.

It may be harsh and they may feel like slaves, but remember, this is your first office and sacrifices must be done, so don't feel bad, lol. The best place for a water dispenser in this office is like shown in the next photo.

Have in mind that Water dispensers have enough water for 12 employees, plus your toilet sinks supply another 2 employees, don't worry about them being thirsty here, they won't.

  • Our office now satisfies the primary needs of our employees. Now, let's give them a place to work.

The best thing you should do is fill every space you can with workplaces once they have enough restrooms and water dispensers.

I'll be giving tips on how to build other offices, but I'll just show what's the best option to have in this particular one.

  • We can still use empty space in your office, so let's fill it with a bookshelf.

  • Fill your bookshelf with any books you like.

  • If you'd like to see what exactly does improving a particular skill, you can go to an employee's info by clicking them and you will see what everything does.

So you've done it! You have built your very first office using every single space you could. And it has only costed you...

Oh well, that seems a lot, but you will earn it in your first game! Let's get to it!
Your very own perfect first engine.
Before making a game, you must have your own engine.

You can buy engines, but let's rather build our own.

The game will force you to make your first engine, and it should look like this.

It seems that's all we've got, right? It's not! We can buy our first platform already.

We'll buy our first platform license for our engine.

I recommend buying Abacaxi SE. It's cheap, and it's easier to make games on it than on the HEGHS. Buying two platforms isn't a good idea, because we can't make a multi cross-platform game, yet.

We can now build our first engine , and it should look like this.

Once we have built our first engine, let's make our first game.
First and efficient game.
Let's make our first game. My choice is a Fantasy - Adventure game.

Always try to make 1x scale games until you have more employees. And by "more employees" I mean a lot, if not, you'll start losing money quickly.

Something very important about early story mode is that 1x scale games can be priced as 9.99$. You can easily make at least one or two games selling them at 10 bucks without people complaining about it.

It's very important to select options that aren't expensive, by that I mean that they don't add many points to the final game.

The more points your game requires, the longer it will take to make it and the quicker you'll lose money.

And it's even more important that you don't select options that you haven't got any experience at all.

As you can see, it has added a TON of quality points into your game, but as you can see in the black right box, everything is gray. That means you have no knowledge about any of those options, so it will just mean you'll lose time and you'll fail making your game.

With no knowledge, your game should look like this.

Your game has gone from 3.313 quality points to 1.671.

That's a lot of time saved.

In the end, your game should look like this.

2189 points can be done in three years easily. That means you can already start making your game!

In the meantime, you can hire one or two software engineers.

It's very important that their salary is lower than 1.300$. You're just beginning and hiring expensive employees will drag you down even before releasing your game.

If there isn't any cheap software engineer, wait a few weeks until it appears. Your main character will still be working in the game so waiting it's not a problem.

Now that you've got your first employee, let's set up some office preferences that will help a lot.

I strongly suggest that every time your employees ask for vacation, you give it to them. They will work better once they're back. If you prefer so, you can check the "auto-approve vacation" office preference too.

After making a QA as the Investor told you, and reaching 100% in development, you can already release your game.

After releasing your first game, the Investor will suggest you to look at any of the four reviews that will appear in your event box.

These reviews are important and you should read them all, because they will unlock information about theme-genre // platform-genre matches and more. You may sometimes need to make more games to get more info about their matches.

After some time, your game will stop selling.

You won't get the exact sales as I did, but you can clearly see that making the game for the Abacaxi SE has helped up to almost 100k!

That was one of many games yet to come. Our next move is to keep updating our engine and get a better team!

Your next steps after the first game released.

Hey there. Maybe you are trying to make way too big games, or you are selecting way too many graphic related features. Try making either a smaller game or removing some graphic features of your game, having a lot of features wont help your game , you have to select the ones that your team has enough knowledge on

I want to ask you how to improve the picture score? I have played until 2008. For every game I made, except for the picture, the score of other items is above 90, but the picture score is only 50... I checked my team, there are 14 artists, grade 10, each with half of the expertise, the latest engine technology... Seek help

i would have to make and fix a lot of things, my pc went dead since may and i finally got it working back this week, GDS has been getting updated a lot and i don't really think my playstyle would be a nice guide anymore.

This starting guide is enough for , but I would need to replay it a lot so... I'm sorry guys.

@parlszhe Expansionpack! Less production costs and selling 2 games (original + expansion). In all of my saves i had 1-3 game developement teams and 1 only for all the expansion packs. less time to dev and a lot of money.

Try that the employee you hire costs less than 1.4k/month, if it's higher, you'll lose.
