In a matter of perspective for DS yes you are trapped in a room with Demons but you can feel proud of yourself and be satisfied for surviving.
You despite the grim world beating upon your being physically or with words of discouragement are a hero.

And isn't this another reason why the DOOM Slayer fights?
He too was a survivor in an impossible odd of escape.
Yet now he is the terror to the evils that threaten all of Mankind.

He fights so that the rest of humanity may survive. He is a great hero. And we the survivors must fight by his example to be heroes.
