Thank you all for the generous comments thus far, they've been a real pleasure to read. Although this was made last-minute, I plan to make a post-saxxy remake with all criticism considered; better animation, some music, etc.

needs music, and more animated movement. black and white silent films weren't still images, silent films had a lot of exaggerated movement and usually some kind of pipe organ sound music! Take a look at the original vampire movie, nosferatu. I think if silent is the style you want to go for, you can do it well. :)
you can also do silent animations (they'll still need music and/or background noise) where the characters' emotions are the focus of the animation.

With some better animation and music behind this, it could've potentially been a serious contenter for 'best short'. Excellent effort for the very first attempt, and in under 10 hours too.
