By now, I'm sure you're aware that this product is the original EGA release of Leisure Suit Larry 1, as seen below.

If you aren't aware, which you should be if you've read the product page, this version also includes the 1991 VGA remake. This is the version many people often remember playing, and it's often the version many desire.

While these two versions are available on Steam through the title you've already downloaded, there's also a third remake that ISN'T included, known as Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, by nFusion Interactive.

Sadly, this version (while still existing in the Steam Store as seen here) is not availale for purchase anymore. Even if you wanted to buy this version, you simply can't. The achievements are reserved for those who managed to buy the game on Steam during the time it was available. However, if you've purchased it straight from the developer, [www.replaygamesinc.com] you ARE able to play it under this Steam title!

You're actually able to play it if you've bought it from any other third party source as well, all you need are the game files. I'll show you how this is all done.

II - Going from EGA -> VGA

This is pretty straightforward and simple. Just follow my lead.

In your library, find Leisure Suit Larry.

Right click on the title, and choose Properties.

You'll be brought to this window.

From here, select the "BETAS" tab.

Now select the drop-down menu.

Choose the VGA option

And success! You're ready to play in all of the LSL VGA glory.

III - Merging the Reloaded version with this Steam copy.
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded was delisted from Steam on November 24th, 2017 when its price was set to $0.00. The game’s page remains accessible but it cannot be purchased through Steam. Shortly after its release in 2013 news broke that Leisure Suit Larry creator, Al Lowe, parted ways with the publisher of Reloaded, Replay Games. Replay Games president Paul Trowe had recently pleaded guilty to showing explicit material to a minor and Polygon found a string of similar convictions from years past.
  • Despite this controversy, the game’s delisting nearly five years after release is most likely due to expired licensing from Codemasters who reportedly owns the intellectual property rights to the franchise. Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded is currently available to buy on GOG.com and the original DOS versions are also available on Steam and GOG. Download codes for PC, Mac, and Steam are also available from Amazon.com as of this writing.

The first step to this process is to, of course, get a copy of the Reloaded version of the game. Thankfully, it's available from GOG and is DRM free, which allows us to do the following trick into getting Reloaded to launch on Steam. Simply install the game into any directory of your choice, right click Leisure Suit Larry on Steam -> Browse Local Files, and go into the "scummvm" folder.

Get all the game files from Reloaded's install directory, and paste them into this "scummvm" folder.

Rename "scummvm.exe" to "scummvm_original.exe", and the folder "scummvm_Data" to "scummvm_Data_original",

Finally, rename LarryReloaded_Data to scummvm_Data, and LarryReloaded.exe to scummvm.exe.

Now when you launch the game via Steam, the reloaded version will play instead of the EGA or VGA version. To revert, simply restore the original files.
