You can try replenish Tranquil with Arcane later on, if you still have mana probs with Arcane+Linkens, resort to Hex which is never a bad item to invest on. Moreover as you said that you "converted" to Controller, the advantage is that while other supports fade away late game, Invoker's support gets boosted as time passes and can easily switch to other role if support is not needed anymore (of course you won't have proper items for other roles, but still with few modifications you can work it out).

I just used it. Works pretty well but lack of mana regen near the end is a big issue. Ended up sort of converting it into a "Controller" build later on with Eul's Scepter.

To be honest regarding the Dire side I must test it again, because I think the fix was aimed at Radiant side (I may be wrong though). On the Radiant side I've seen recently pulling the hard camp into middle lane, again I have to test that too. However this is one of the 3 scenarios regarding your 1st 3 levels. If it is impossible to execute you can resort to either pulling the normal camp (counter ward it if needed to do so) or struggle a bit more and kill the small camp just by kiting a bit (if the small camp has the healer creep though it's impossible).

Cool Thanks a lot for the info... do you think the jungle is still viable with the recent patch that makes it imposible to pull the small creeps??

Jungling with Invoker is quite hard at the 1st two levels. However if you're are Dire side it's much easier, because you can pull the easy camp into the top lane. (I'm assuming that your classic pull spot is warded. If it's not start by doing pulls until lvl 3). The items gor jungling can differentiate a bit. The situational medallion item is for jungling and I often start with it. The armor helps tanking a bit at early stages. When level 3, you start using your Forge Spirit. Let it tank until it's on last hit, then retreat it and tank yourself. Soon (level 5 or 6) the Spirit will grow much stronger and with medallion it's pretty easy to farm the creeps. It is very beneficial exp and gold wise to pay attention to the lanes, to help with a sunstrike or coldsnap in your close lane. Since you can do that on level 2 already it is recommended to do so.
