CS:GO and the HyperX Cloud II headset [outdated]

A quick guide on how to configure your sound for the use of a HyperX Cloud II headset.

Introduction

I am using a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi soundcard, but you (hopefully) should be able to find equal settings for yours if you installed the driver and utilities properly.

Important: If possible, do not use the USB sound adapter that comes with the Cloud II. The headset per se has a great sound quality and it is wasted on its USB sound device. Most motherboards nowadays have a decent soundcard equipped (or maybe you have a really good one installed like I do), so using that one is preferable.

Note: You might need to buy an extra cable that you can connect to the headset in order to plug it into your soundcard. The Cloud I already comes with all the cables you need, but the Cloud II doesn't.

The Frequencies

The most important part is configuring the frequencies properly to be able to better distinguish sounds in-game. I find the following setting best for reducing distracting environmental sounds and enhancing footsteps, the bomb sound and everything else:



You might have noticed that my volume settings for use with the headset are very low. Unlike the HyperX Cloud I, the Cloud II's volume controller is attached to the USB connector cable, so if you don't use it, you will need to control the volume via software.
Windows sound settings
CS:GO supports 5.1 surround sound, and I strongly recommend you make use of it. Before we configure in-game sound, we need to set up Windows sound properly:

1. Navigate to your Windows sound settings

There are two ways to do it. Via the Control Panel (navigation differs between Operating Systems):


Or via Windows Search:



2. Set up 5.1 surround sound (CS:GO doesn't support 7.1)







3. Tweak some settings





In-game sound settings
Adjust the in-game settings according to the sound options you just chose for Windows:



I recommend you deactivate HRTF (a.k.a. Advanced 3D Audio Processing) when you use 5.1 surround sound, since the whole point of using surround sound is to be able to pinpoint directions.
Autoexec.cfg settings
Add the following commands to your http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1292134455, they will enhance the precision of directional sound even when you already use 5.1 surround settings:
snd_front_headphone_position "53.2" snd_rear_headphone_position "90.0" snd_headphone_pan_exponent "1.2" snd_headphone_pan_radial_weight "0.0"
The value for "snd_front_headphone_position" depends on your screen resolution:
43.2 (5:4 resolution), 45.0 (4:3 resolution), 50.2 (16:10 resolution), or 53.2 (16:9 resolution)

You are done.

Now launch the game and test your sound. I recommend the following map to do so:

So, can you update it or advice me something? I have the same soundcard and Cloud II also, but I don't know how to configure them correctly. It feeks like sometimes I have some misunderstanding about the in-game positioning

The frequencies are still up-to-date, unless you have a cheap soundcard where you can't configure anything. ;)

Everything else is partially outdated, so I wouldn't recommend using it. The only thing I still strongly recommend for people who have a decent soundcard is to use that (i.e., plug your headset in directly) rather than those inferior USB adapters that have their own soundcard integrated.

It is not possible to open Realtek on Hp Pavillon equiped with B&O sound. (I tried everything) You have to use B&O play audio control that you will find in win start menu typing "B&O", and it works fine. Then you have to select "audio output" and then click on "equalizer" button. (Just saying incase someone can't find it bevause the interface is shitty.



I can't press "configure" button in win sound settings when selecting headset HyperX7.1 (headset plugged in with usb) so that reinforce the point not using usb to follow this guide.
And when i plug the headset with the jack there is only stereo as an option, i saw you answered a similar question already so i know i'm screwed with my jack because my built in sound isn't good enough.

This guide is for quality soundcards that have software which has frequencies and several other features that cheap built-in cards don't have.

Also, it is quite old and I don't feel like updating it. ;)

Do not use 5.1 surround sound...its really bad if you want to hear clear footsteps

k but if I buy myself a splitter it will work ? I have to say the background noises in scgo with the gheyperx cloud 2 are so fuckin annoying !

@s1mon 神: If your headset is plugged in via USB and not into the sound card, and if you don't have software installed that allows customization, this guide is not for you.
