Honour Mode Helper

This small program lets you backup and restore your Honour Mode save game at any time at your will.

Do you want to beat the game in Honour Mode but you are afraid of investing many many hours for nothing because of an unforeseen ambush by a bunch of over-leveled Undeads or Voidvokens? Then this is for you!

Motivation
Beating Divinity: Original Sin 2 in Tactition Mode is great fun, if you like to get challenged. The combats demand your attention and you have to think about your every move. At least in the beginning, as the game gets easier in the later chapters.

The developers did a very good job in balancing. For most of the fights they did also a good job in telling you if can you can win it. For example, if your level-two Godwoken is talking to a level-three bad guy in Fort Joy who is surrounded by four or five allies, you know that provoking him might not be a good idea. Or if you see these little red rhombi on your mini-map, carefully move the camera to them and find out that these enemies are three levels higher than you, you might want to reconsider another travelling destination.

BUT! There are a few fights which are not so fair at all. Especially, if they are started via an ambush AND the game autosaves right at the beginning of the fight. One such situation awaits you right after leaving Fort Joy through the sewers. Your Godwokens might be level four at this time (or even lower) and when you head east, four Undeads and one Void creature spawn out of nowhere and the game autosaves immediately. The Undead with the highest initiative spawns directly behind you and might kill you with a single hit. Time between autosave of combat begin and dead of character: not even two seconds.

In Tactition Mode this is fine, as you can easily load your latest Quicksave. But in Honour Mode you might be screwed, if you don't manage to flee with your other character(s). And even if you do, it can be pretty hard or impossible to resurrect your ally without joining the fight again.

For these situations, I built this little program.
Features
The following features are supported right now. I will also consider adding new functionality based on recommendations from comments.
  • Backup your Honour Mode save game at any time
  • Restore any save game from all backups at any time
  • Tag your backups with custom text
  • Automatically create a backup after you saved in-game
  • Limit the count of automatic backups (oldest gets deleted for a new one)
  • Sources available (in case you don't trust programs which manipulate your file system)
Usage
Instructions to use the program the way it's meant to be used.
  • Be sure to have the lates version of Java installed (Download[java.com])
  • Start up the jar file by double-clicking on it

Profile selection

  • Make sure the profiles directory is correct. The default path should be "Documents/Larian Studios/Divinity Original Sin 2/PlayerProfiles"
  • For Definitive Edition, the default path is "Documents/Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition\PlayerProfiles"
  • Important: Select the "PlayerProfiles" folder and NOT your profile name or even the folder that contains the savegame.
  • You can select your in-game profile from the drop down list.
  • In case of emergency press "DOS1" or "DOS2 for default values of Divinity Original Sin 1 or 2, respectively.

Backups

  • Backup Now: Creates a backup of your current Honour Mode save game. This only works if you already started your Honour Mode game and asved at least once, though.
  • Automatic Backup: Automatically creates a new backup after every in-game save
  • Limit Save Game Count: If activated, the oldest backup without a custom name gets deleted when a new one is created and the number of backup exceeds the value in the spinner on the right.
  • You can select any backup in the list to inspect its details.
  • If you select multiple elements (by holding down CTRL), you can delete them with Delete Selection.

Backup detail

  • You can set a custom name of your backup. (Don't forget to press Enter or click Apply). Once a custom name is set, the backup won't get deleted when Automatic Backup is active.
  • Goto: Opens the backup location in Explorer.
  • Restore: Restores the backup as your Honour Mode save game. THIS WILL OVERRIDE YOUR CURRENT SAVE! All you have to do now is load your save game in-game.
  • Delete: Deletes the selected save game.
Annotations
Some things that might be good to know.
  • I take no responsibility for any harm this program might cause (mentally or physically).
  • You don't have to shut down the game for creating or restoring backups. Just don't try to create backups while the game is saving (indicated by the phrase Saving... in the lower right corner of your screen).
  • If you have questions or comments, feel free to use the Comments section below.

Hi @suicide martyr, you should be able to fork the repo and create a pull request from the fork without any special permissions. You can also create an issue directly in my repo describing what you want to have changed.

If anyone else is as late to the party as me, I can confirm it still works.

Thanks to the creator!

Yes, it still works. Just tested it. For the classic edition you can just follow the instructions above. For the definitive edition make sure to use the new profiles directory, typically: C:\Users\<your account>\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition\PlayerProfiles

Anyone knows if this still works? My lil bro and I are accidentally first timing in honor mode and we are scared to die and lost our 20h+ progress, I want to get off the honor mode wild ride :(

@귀신 Most people wouldn't even be playing Honour Mode if it weren't for the achievement. Already played the game in Tactician and got all the other achievements in the game, you think I want to play Honour Mode? Hardcore, to me, is a waste of time; but I appreciate people enjoying the extra challenge. An achievement is an achievement though :P

Sorry, you can only restore saves that were made by the game while this app was running.

Will this restore my lost honour mode save after i failed or is it erased completely and nothing will help? :lunar2019deadpanpig:

This just defeats the entire point of honour mode. If you can't handle it, just player an easier difficulty.:zagsnooze:
