After reading Fontenelle’s "Alchemical Observations", one alchemist thought mentioned 'Viscous Sludge' should be one of middle-product of high-profit product for some reasons(he even didn't care about the fact House Colvan mainly make their fortune from metal product.).
So he started to mix the sludge and whatever he could think of in transmutation engine to find out the "high-profit product". --- Well, as you can imagine, these trials only made tons of useless substance.
Though there's also a few gem. Known as "Wall clay of purification" today, this substance is very suitable to wall cray, because of ability adsorbing harmful substances and smells in rooms. As a drawback, it smells like seaweed a bit, but that a small count.
