Springlock's Heavy Guide for Beginners
By ogre confrontation
Hello again, old sport. Due to the "success" of my previous guide, that of how to play Medic, I decided to finally make a new one. Here we go!

Quick Character Sum-Up
The Heavy, also known as the Heavy Weapons Guy or Mikhal (Misha for short), is a big-boned, intellectual Russian man who likes to shoot his gun. He likes to shoot a lot, and thats all you need to know about him.
Weapons
Heavy actually has quite a lot of different guns and weapons to use, such as;

Primary:

Minigun (Sasha): -Stock, basic weapon, sucks at long range, lots of spread, shoots bullets, pew pew, the meta

Iron Curtain: -Stock reskin (unlocked through Poker Night at Inventory)

Natasha: -Good for countering scouts and demoknights, less damage, more survivability when revved (though hardly noticeable)

Brass Beast (Oksana): -More damage, a lot slower, more survivability when revved (ditto with Nat)

Tomislav (Svetlana): -Good at long range (more accurate), silent rev, requires somewhat better tracking, good for peaking corners and ambushing, also the meta

Huo Long Heater (Sheila): -Flame damage (afterburn) close up, consumes ammo faster, good when paired with a friendly engie’s dispenser (Heavybro)

Secondary:

Shotgun: -Accurate, but meme weapon at best

Family Business: -The best shotgun option, Fat Scout #1 pick

Panic Attack: -Decent alternative to shotty, but still inferior

Sandvich: -Good for your medic, medium health kit, the meta

Dalokohs Bar: -Gives overheal (extra health when consumed at full) for some time, small health kit, inferior to the other two lunchbox items, but good for tanking snipers

Buffalo Steak Sandvich: -Gain mini crits on consumption, restricted to melee, take more damage, absolute garbage

Second Banana: -Slightly more self-heal than Dalokohs, great for medicless team and solo heavy, small health kit, sometimes also the meta

Melee:

Fists: -Stock, not very useful

Apoco-fists: -PUNCH HIM SO HARD HE EXPLODES!!!!

Gloves of Running Urgently (GRU): -Move faster, slowly drains max health, good for rollouts, meta sometimes.

Killer Gloves of Boxing (KGB): -Gives crits after melee kill, slower punches

Eviction Notice: -Move slightly faster, speed boost on hit, faster punches, less damage, max hp drains while deployed

Warrior's Spirit: -It sucks

Fists of Steel: -Good for sponging non-melee damage when deployed, take more damage from melee, less healing from meds when deployed, slower holster and deploy, the meta

Holiday Punch: -Meme weapon, crits on back, crit forces taunt, crits do no damage, can destroy ubers if you can sneak up on them
Misc Tips
-Heavy's bullets from his miniguns actually shoot from his head (Thanks, Rydercycle). You can use this bit of knowledge for peaking or using objects as a barrier.

-Heavy's main enemies are Snipers and Spies, due to his slow speed. Always remember to watch your surroundings.

-Always protect your Medic. Whether it means using a lunchbox item (sandvich, dalokohs, steak, or banana), or just watching his back. It will benefit both you and the team.

-An Engineer's dispenser can benefit you a lot. If you are on defence, try and stay near it for healing or ammo.

-The same could be said about teleporters. Heavy has high priority when it comes to teleporters, just below the engie himself and the medic. Use teleporters when you can to get to the frontline faster.

-Do NOT go into a vastly open area alone, especially when the enemy team has a Sniper. This is a one-way ticket to a painful death.

-The objective is one of your main priorities as the tank of the team. Constantly target it.

Medieval Mode?
Medieval Mode, being an almost completely melee-only gamemode, changes Heavy's play style a lot. Remember how I said that the Warrior's Spirit was a terrible weapon? Well, this is the only place it really shines. When paired with the steak, the WS is actually a really efficient weapon. Of course, you could always just use the KGB instead, which is a much better option to be honest (even the Holiday Punch can work at times). One thing to keep in mind though is the melee hit boxes. If you try to hit an enemy past an ally, it won't register. If your team is clustered together fighting the enemy team, no one will hit anyone. You can use this to your advantage if your not being clustered by your allies, blocking incoming damage, and peaking out to dish some out.
MvM Guide
So, Heavy is a really powerful pick in MvM. He is almost always a necessity or key player for a victorious wave. So what should you prioritize?

Weapon Loadout:

-Primary: -Stock: All around good option, good dps, viable in practically all situations

-Brass Beast: Best dps in Heavy’s arsenal, very tanky too

-Huo-Long Heater: Good for close-up combat with hordes, as well as dealing with spies

(Every other minigun (or other weapons) not listed either is completely useless, or can have their job be done by another class or other upgrades.)

-Secondary: -Sandvich: Basically your only option, trumps every other secondary in this gamemode

-Melee: -FoS: Really good for retreats when ammo depletes, be wary of melee bots

-GRU: If the engie’s teleported is down, these can help you get to the frontline faster

Upgrades:

The most important upgrades are your resistances and your minigun’s ammo and firing speed. Your speed upgrades can also come in useful for dodging and relocating. Your sandvich regen time upgrades aren’t as necessary as you may think, but are always good to consider if your med is having troubles. Don’t upgrade your melees, just don’t. Uber Canteens (if you have the upgrade canteen) are always great to have (cuz the med will likely be running kritzkreig. If he isn’t, then use the crits canteen). Upgrade your resistances in relation with the bots in the wave, and what there is more of.

Playstyle:

Stay in the frontlines.

Soak up damage for your medic and kill anything harassing him.

Avoid sniper bots.

Be aware of spy bots.

Stay near the dispenser.

If there is a giant scout or bonk scouts, stand in their way so your team can shoot them.
Keep moving around while revved.

Don’t shoot medic bots or their pockets before they uber if a demo or pyro is planning on whiping them out.

That's All!
That's basically it. More stuff will be added in the near future. Leave a comment and like if this helped you. Leave suggestions on what I should change or add, you will be credited. Non-constructive criticism will be deleted, as it is unhelpful and meaningless. Next guide will either be a serious Engineer or Spy guide, or a more joking guide on the other classes.
