FWIW I started out with per-poly collisions on everything, including vehicles, and it made units a LOT harder to hit.

Vehicles don't enable it by default but you can add [GameObjectClass] collisionName = "<model>.fbx" to the ODF to get polygon collision for vehicles. You can use the main model or (ideally) a lower LOD model for that. The collision will follow the vehicle animations and it works with skinned meshes too (though that gets more expensive).

Yep! Vehicles use the simplified collision but bullets use polygon-accurate collisions. I'm definitely happy with how that turned out. :)
