De Awakened
Purgatory can be a dangerous place. Death comes easy to those who enter unprepared. Knowing it well will help you survive.

This guide contains useful tips and tricks for people just starting out, mostly spoiler-free. There is a companion guide In Death In Depth for those who want to dive deeper.

Prerequisites
If you haven't already, play the tutorial. Anything explained in the tutorial will be assumed common knowledge in this guide, and only expanded upon.
Movement
A word of warning: Locomotion in this game is most likely very different than what you are used to. Give it a chance, don't immediately give up. It has a steep learning curve and you might take some time to adjust, but when you do it will feel awesome.

If all else fails, you can always enable free analog stick locomotion in the settings, but i would suggest avoiding that unless you absolutely cannot do without.

  • The knife has a range limit how far you can teleport, the bow is only limited by how far you can shoot.
  • The bow is useful for large or more precise movements. Use the bow for long jumps and the knife for short hops.
  • The knife can be thrown with your arms hanging down, from the wrist. This gives your arms a well-deserved rest, in the beginning holding out your arms might be tiring.
  • If you want to move quickly, throw the knife fast, straight, and with a slight downward angle. Throw with a small wrist movement, not with a whole-arm swing.
Combat
  • Every enemy can be staggered by hitting them with an arrow. If a knight gets too close, shoot him. If a monk aims at you, shoot him. Interrupting enemies is a good way of preemptive defense. Body shots don't deal as much damage as headshots, but with the right timing you can keep enemies at bay for a long time.
  • Headshots deal a lot of damage. Practicing your aim will be invaluable.
  • For consistent hits, try to maintain a consistent posture. A fully extended bow arm as a guide and a nocking hand drawing the arrow right up to your cheek always in the same position gives you a consistent shot. Winging it and shooting from the hip, sideways or at whatever odd angle you require comes once you have a feeling for the shooting mechanics.
  • The arrow selection menu slows time when it is open. Use this to your advantage to give you a moment to plan your next move. When overwhelmed, open the arrow selection to give you some breathing room.
  • If enemies get into melee range, don't panic. Shoot them calmly to interrupt them, and only then try to relocate, if necessary. You can easily handle a few enemies in close range if you time your interrupts correctly, so you might not need to escape at all.
  • Enemies can hear your arrows, both when airborne and their impact. You can use this to your advantage to lure enemies to you by shooting somewhere close to them. Careful not to accidentally alert additional enemies with missed shots.
Purgatory 101
The first area of the game, Purgatory, has 3 random sections and one fixed final section. After each of the random sections is a reliquary (shop), the entrance of which is on a small floating island to the side of the main path. Just enter the gateway and you can purchase items for your hard-earned gold.

There is a side-area connected to Purgatory, the Pit of Perdition, that can be reached through a red portal. Once you enter, you have to clear the area to get back to Purgatory. The Pit is filled with difficult and scary enemies, so enter at your own risk.
Unlocking / Achievements
You unlock things by completing achievements and then inevitably dying. The unlocks are available on your next run.

There are broadly speaking three groups of unlocks

Items

New items like arrows and powerups get added to your available pool of items. Once unlocked, they can either drop from enemies as loot, or be sold in the shop for gold.

Upgrades

Some achievements unlock permanent upgrades for you. There have a variety of different effects, including increased damage with certain arrows, permanent health increases or more loot dropped in the world.

Enemies

Every once in a while you unlock a new enemy. Most enemies are unlocked by you killing lots of their brethren, be prepared for their reinforcements. New enemies have different health pools, and each new enemy has a special ability. Observe them closely to find a way to deal with the new threat.
Enemies - Purgatory
Abominations

Slow and weak, but numerous. No big threat, but they can exhibit sudden bursts of speed and lunge at you. Don't let them get too close.

Monks

Can teleport and shoot arrows. Always pay attention to their sound and trail when they relocate, if you lose track they will shoot you in the back. Generally fairly low health, a few arrows or a headshot will dispose of them quickly. Try not to engage too many at once, or you will soon get shot at from all directions.

Knights

Tough, but usually melee range only. Will throw axes at you if you cannot be reached on foot, but those are fairly slow and easy to block compared to arrows. Can also do a series of jump attacks when close enough to strike, which covers a lot of ground fast. Very dangerous if more than one get close to you. Try to keep them busy with quick shots to the body to interrupt them. Some Knights have shields, in this case you can wait for them to start an attack and then interrupt them when their guard is down. Alternatively aim at their feet, they are unprotected and easier to hit than the head.

Wraiths

Ghostly enemies guarding the entrance to the Pit of Perdition. Shoot their heart to kill them.

Пытался играть на vive cosmos, не смог телепортироваться. Судя по всему, контроллеры не соответствуют игре. Обидно
