Getting Started in Skyfront
First off, I'll be running through all the nitty gritty nooby material first. If you're at least slightly experienced, I'd skip this part and begin at the "Skyfront's Basic Secrets" tab.

For those fresh in the arenas - The Basic Controls

For Mixed Reality users, the control scheme is identical to the VIVE controller layout, with the addition of being able to use snap turning with the control stick.

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET, PLAY THE TUTORIAL.
It's vital to understand how to fly and switch weapons at the very least.

Basics Continued

There's still a few things to note even after the tutorial that will help you out in the arenas. Some notes are simply helpful, others are necessary to know:
  • Changing your loadout can be done in-game by pressing your Menu key then pointing and selecting "LOADOUTS" at the bottom of the screen.
  • The grip key must be held down in order to use the grappling hook properly, even after it has connected with the target/object you want to grapple. Releasing the grip key at any time will retract the grappling hook.
  • For maximum thruster speed, you must equip both Speed Shifters (pressing up on both controllers), then holding up on both controllers to boost with both Speed Shifters simultaneously.
  • Looking at your wrists after switching weapons, you can see a visual representation of what button switches to what weapon. This can be disabled in settings under "HUD" and "Weapon Switch Prompt".
  • The floating diamonds in the arenas are health packs. Touching these will consume them, healing you to max health instantly.
The Secrets of Skyfront
Skyfront's Basic Secrets

Now for experienced players, here's where the real guide begins! We'll start with some things even the most experienced players may not know!

  • You can grip the Sniper Rifle (313 Phantom) with both hands for more accurate aiming. Place your hand (the one not already holding the rifle) near the grip of the rifle, then holding the grip key with that hand will cause it to grasp the grip of the weapon.
  • You can grip the Minigun (Locust) similarly with both hands for more accurate aiming. Place your hand (the one not already holding the gun) near the top handle on the gun, then holding the grip key with that hand will cause it to grasp the grip of the weapon.
  • You can change the Sniper Rifle's zoom distance. At the moment, this is far easier on Vive and Mixed Reality, as it is easily done by swiping the touchpad while holding the Sniper Rifle. On Oculus, things are a bit tougher, as you'll have to play with the joystick a bit slowly to tune the rifle's zoom.
  • You can punch your enemies by throwing your hands through their body, with each hand dealing 20 damage each punch. This can be done no matter what you're holding.
  • You can penetrate an enemy's shield by reaching your weapon inside their shield and firing. If need be, you can even throw your whole self inside their shield for an even closer shot.
  • You can fire multiple rockets at once with the rocket launcher if you only hold the trigger in halfway. The longer you hold, the more rockets are loaded into the chamber (3 being the maximum).
  • You can also fire multiple grenades at once with the grenade launcher (Pineapple). Though unlike the rocket launcher, the Pineapple allows you to shoot your choice of 1, 2, or 3 grenades in a single shot. To fire 1 grenade, long press the trigger. To fire 2, quickly press and release the trigger. To fire 3, pull the trigger only halfway until all 3 grenades release!
  • You can double up your shield ability by equipping the shield ability to both hands. Unlike most other abilities that share the same cooldown timer on both hands, the shield ability does not. So as soon as one shield is depleted, you can instantly deploy your second shield.
Weapons of Importance
Put simply, this is a list for all weapons currently available in Skyfront with a few notes to get a solid idea of what it is, and how important it is.
I've placed everything into ranked "tiers" as well. The highest tier is represented by 5 stars (★★★★★). The lowest tier represented by 1 star (★).

PLSM-8 REVOLVER - Pistol (★★★★★)
The pistol is easily the best "all around" weapon, as it's great for both seasoned and new players, while also great at basically any range. With an unlimited fire rate and 100 damage (or an instant kill head shot), you can down any man in just 2 hits at most while, again, at nearly any range. With an unlimited fire rate, you'll still want to keep your shot speed a bit slower at higher range, as the pistol does need to take it's time calming down from the recoil; though this is not a worry at very close range. The only thing truly holding this back - damage drop off exists with the pistol, so head shots at very long distance may not result in a kill. Though more often than not, with it's high damage, perfect accuracy, and great firing speed, the revolver is the Skyfront professional's primary weapon of choice.

PINEAPPLE - Grenade Launcher (★★★★)
The grenade launcher is likely the most popular weapon choice - and for good reason. It delivers higher damage in a single blast than any other weapon in the game. With an average reload time and only 3 grenades per cycle, it's still the best weapon for wiping out large groups of enemies in record time. It will however take a while to master the Pineapple, especially as you must practice the "fire and fly" technique (check out the Skills of Importance tab), otherwise, you'll often be an open target while waiting for the opportunity to detonate your grenades. Though after plenty of practice, you'll be bouncing grenades around corners, wiping out entire groups, and winning many of matches thanks to this one.

YELLOW THUNDER - Shotgun (★★★★)
Previously known as the Blunderbuss, the trusty shotgun rightfully takes the spot as the greatest close range weapon in the game, being devastatingly powerful, ridiculously fast in it's fire rate, and easy to use for both seasoned players and fresh. At close range, there's no other option, as this one is practically always a one hit kill, and in the off chance it isn't - it's unlimited fire rate can still finish off any foe within a fraction of a second. Great reach for getting into shields also!

313 PHANTOM - Sniper Rifle (★★★)
It must be noted that the sniper rifle comes with a big learning curve. For newcomers, it's definitely far from recommended, as connecting a shot with this one is a challenge. While it has the highest in range of Skyfront's weaponry, it also has a difficult to use scope and a long reload time. Getting good at this thing is tough, but once you've mastered it, the rifle becomes the most terrifying weapon in the game for your enemies. Long and short range, with a double handed grip on this gun, it's extremely useful for it's one-shot-kill power at any range and perfect accuracy. Careful though, as only using one hand with this guy reduces damage by 50%!
Excellent reach for getting into shields also!

LOCUST - Minigun (★★)
The Locust minigun is by far the scariest to face, but it's horror truly only comes from it's massive size and terrifying rain of bullet hell. It's actually quite a bit softer than it appears, even with a massive fire rate and even more massive ammo capacity (200), it is dragged down by recoil greater than any weapon in Skyfront, huge bullet spread, and it's tendency to force it's user to hold it with a two handed grip to reduce both that recoil and bullet spread. Once gripped with two hands though, this weapon can potentially wipe out a full server of people in a matter of seconds with just one clip! Though getting great aim with this weapon is difficult. Worth a shot for those who are comfortable enough for a challenge.

ASSAULT RIFLE (★)
The assault rifle has great reload time, automatic firing, and makes for great practice in aiming, but that's about it. The AR is hindered a bit too much by low damage with only a medium-ish fire rate to have it be a recommendation, especially for a professional in Skyfront. In short, avoid this one unless you're still new around here and want some good aiming practice!

BLESSING MK - Rocket Launcher (★)
Easily one, if not the, best choice for newcomers to Skyfront. Aiming is not necessarily required, as rockets chase enemies down, and once connected, do a decent amount of damage. While you deal with a slow fire rate, you can also opt to firing all 3 rockets at once (see Skyfront's Basic Secrets above) in a single shot which, when connected with an enemy, is an instant kill. The largest fallback here, is that seasoned players are almost constantly at a speed that makes these rockets near impossible to connect.
Still, the rocket launcher is a great choice for the less experienced.

Abilities of Importance
Just like the weapon list - Here's a list for all abilities currently available in Skyfront with a few notes to get a solid idea of what it is, and how important it is.

JAMMER (★★★★★)
The Jammer is a new fear for enemies in Skyfront, as it does a multitude of disgusting attacks on their abilities. The Jammer shuts down abilities of any enemy within a large proximity, while also disabling their ability to launch any new ability. This means it will reveal hidden enemies using Stealth, prevent an enemy from using Shockwave, or even stop them from healing! This is especially useful against eliminating enemies defending themselves with Shield for example, where Jammer will both shut down the enemy shield and prevent them from using any other ability (including the dreaded second shield) for an incredibly long duration. Simply put, if you enter a firefight and begin by jamming the enemy, it's a more than likely win.

SHIELD (★★★★★)
Currently, the Shield is an absolute must have for all players - especially for the newcomers. This one has a special place in the Skyfront meta, as it blocks all incoming damage, and creates some very interesting close quarters battles as it is only penetrable through enemies reaching through it. While it has a long charge up time, it can also be equipped on both hands, with each hand having it's own recharge time (see Secrets of Skyfront tab). To summarize - use this.

X-RAY (★★★★)
This one is popular for many reasons. First one being - this is a great tool to find enemies quickly, furthering your chances of climbing the scoreboard. Other times, it can be used in not so conventional ways, like hiding behind a corner while you spray your gun around the side, as you can still see where you're aiming with X-Ray activated. This is definitely an important ability in Skyfront challenges/events that require ranking up kills, killstreaks, etc. Though an important note - the more people in your match, the less valuable X-Ray will be.

STEALTH (★★★)
Among the professionals, stealth is definitely one of the most common. Mostly used as a way to sneak up on enemies, it's also great for escaping. Escaping is much harder though, as after an enemy has already sighted you, stealth may not make them lose sight, as it's far from 100% invisibility. It's more of an active camouflage, but it is still far more successful than it is a failure.

SHOCKWAVE (★★)
As the only ability that causes damage to enemies, it seems enticing as a first choice. But while Shockwave deals a crazy high 180 damage, it's far too faulted by it's unpredictable nature to be recommended. In most cases, the Shockwave will end up getting caught on something other than your enemy, since the wave stops its momentum when touching any physical object in the game. It's near impossible to avoid this too, as Shockwave is LARGE. To summarize - Don't use this.

HEAL (★)
Not the most helpful, as all Skyfront maps are already filled with plenty of health packs to pick up in all major areas, the Heal can still get you out of many situations, namely, when you're up against weapons that don't kill you immediately. Even someone blasting you with a shotgun at medium range can't drain your health fast enough to compete with this ability's quick healing. Still, it's hard to say the benefit outweighs the cost. To summarize - Don't use this.

Skills of Importance
For some final stuff I've created a summary of some important tips and notes to keep in mind in order to be among the "professional" group in Skyfront. None of this is required, but definitely recommended.

SHIELD PENETRATION

This is a huge part of Skyfront. In more important games (especially challenges, events, tournaments, etc.) nearly everyone will be using shields, and lots of them. Shield penetration has brought itself to be one of the core mechanics of pro-level Skyfront combat. To put it short, when you don't have a Jammer ready to disable that enemy shield, your best option at close range is to rush up, stick the barrel of your weapon through the wall of their shield and fire. It's as if there's no shield at all. Important to note however - Long weapons like the Phantom and Locust are far better for this purpose, especially if the enemy is also trying to get his reach inside your own shield!

GOTTA GO FAST

A huge key part of staying alive is getting used to maximizing your speed. Double boosting is not the fastest way to travel - it is typically a combination of this, and some master level grappling. Grappling specifically to get around or over walls is just one example of many techniques you should be practicing.

Here's an example of a technique possible with the grappling hook![media.giphy.com]

QUICK SWAPS

If you study a seasoned player closely, you'll find that they always have two thrusters out, or two weapons out, and never a mixture of the two. This is primarily due to the seasoned player's habit of "quick swapping". A quick swap is typically when a player goes from two shifters, to two weapons, quickly steals a kill, then swaps back to his two thrusters, all in rapid succession. This means these players never have guns out, unless they need to fire a bullet. It's a simple trick to master, but very, very important. It keeps your speed up, and your kills quicker.

Here's an example of a quick swap![media.giphy.com]

FIRE AND FLY

This pertains specifically to the Pineapple grenade launcher, and more specifically, how to correctly use it. Most people fresh with this weapon will fire, wait until the grenade indicator turns green, then detonate. While that will be successful plenty of times, it leaves you incredibly vulnerable to getting killed before you have time to detonate. It's important to remember to keep moving, even when waiting on grenades. So the easiest way to climb the board with this weapon is actually a bit more complex. Shoot the grenades, return to thrusters and continue flying until the grenade indicators turn green, quickly switch back to Pineapple(s), then pull the trigger again to finally detonate, switch back to thrusters again to keep your momentum as if nothing happened. For this, it may be important to keep practicing "quick swaps".

WALLHACK KILLS

Getting it's name right from the community outcry, this "cheap" trick is not entirely practical when you're really trying to win, as it forces you to replace your abilities with X-Ray and Shockwave. Wallhack kills come from players exploiting the Shockwave, and how it no longer stops when contacting walls. So to pull this off, just launch X-Ray to scan for enemies, find the nearest player that is protected by a wall, and launch a Shockwave right through it. Just keep in mind that Shockwave will not kill a healthy enemy, but when this is not the case, it'll do the job (and make a lot of people mad).

Final Notes
Thanks for reading!
I still feel this guide is incomplete, and I'll be working on it more in the future to contain more details like further advice, skills, info, etc.

Everything here is definitely subject to change
As such, I will do my best in updating it as Skyfront also changes in future updates.

It talks about a "loadout" but never explains what that is and why it's important.
