Overview
Here are the main pillars of the game.

- Toy Box
- Toy Box Hub
- Figures
- Playsets
- Round & Hex Discs

Toy Box
You could call the Toy Box simply a Map Editor that allows the user to create all kind of adventures, custom mini-games or playsets. More importantly, all figures from all brand can be used in a Toy Box.

However, to take full advantage of the Toy Box, you'll need to play the game, collect Sparks and complete some missions to unlock new Toys that can be used to create adventures or environment pieces, etc. There are pros and cons to this approach, because you can't just jump in there and create whatever you want and use any enemies. A lot of cool enemies need to be unlocked.

Toy Box Hub
That's essentially a small open world for all your figures. There are some tutorials, mini-games in there, funny locations, etc. There are areas based on different themes (Tattoine, Ewok village, Disney farm, etc.). It's a fun little world to get introduced to Disney Infinity 3.0. But it's not an open world in the likes of GTA, Skyrim, etc.

Figures
You have different figures from different Brands such as Star Wars, Marvel Superheroes and Disney.

Each character also has its own RPG skill tree that allows the user to unlock new gameplay mechanics or powers. Some of them are active and others are passive. Each character has its own gameplay mechanics, a super power and can level up. By playing the game, the player can collect Blue Glowing Orbs (experience points) named ''Sparks''. In-game, the player can pause the game, select Skill Tree and then use those Sparks to purchase new abilities. The player can also use a Special Ability (the purple icon with a lightning in top left corner of the screen).

What is great about Disney Infinity 3.0 Gold Edition is that you get them all for free, all unlocked. You then have to play with them to level up, etc.

Playsets
Disney Infinity 3.0 Gold Edition features the following playsets:

- Twilight of the Republic
- Rise against the Empire
- Force Awakens
- Inside Out
- Toybox Takeover
- Toybox Speedway

Traditionally, each playset starts with 2 figures and during the game, as you play through the different game levels, you can collect Champion Coins. Each Champion Coin represents a playble figure that can be unlocked. And each playset can be played only by a certain group of figures.

As an example, the Star Wars - Twilight of the Republic playset starts with Anakin and Asokha. During the game you can find the Champion Coin to unlock Darth maul, Darth Vader, Obi Wan Kenoby, Ezra Bridger, etc. However, Marvel Superheroes and Disney figures can't be used in the Star Wars playsets.

Gameplay-wise, the playsets are adventures that can be more or less open world depending of the level. Some level are racing games, some others are more open world with quests and some others are more linear or action oriented. The level design can differ greatly from one level to another. Also, once you completed the game you can Replay the missions that you played before. There are also Challenges/Achievements that you can complete.

More importantly, some toys in your Toy Box ight be locked and to unlock them you might need to complete something in a Playset.

Ex: Complete “Defend The Droid” Mission to unlock First Order Shielded Elite.

Round & Hex Discs
Power Discs are discs that are placed on the Disney Infinity Base in order to give a character special abilities and upgrades, or to place certain toys or customizations in the Toy Box. Power discs come in two shapes: circular or hexagonal. Circular discs go under a figure to provide stat boosts to your character, change their costume, summon another character to fight with your character, or trigger an event that will deal damage to enemies. Hexagonal disks are placed on the hexagonal spot at the back of the base, where a Play Set piece would normally go, and provide either texture customizations (Skydomes and Texture Sets) or new toys for your Toy Box.

@DrAOblivian Hulkbuster & Ultron, as well as the Star Wars: The Force Awakens figures, are in this version, as their code was in the game at launch, alongside an unfinished version of the reworked Black Suit Spider-Man, since Black Suit Spider-Man used to be a figure exclusively obtainable from the PS Vita starter pack back in 2.0, but could be used on any system that supported physical figures, & was a carbon copy of regular Spider-Man gameplay-wise.

@DrAOblivian Nope, this version has a digital figure mechanic, so you can play without the base. However, most of the new Marvel figures, the Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set, Baloo, the Alice: Through the Looking Glass figures, the Finding Dory Play Set & figures, & any scrapped or cut characters aren't in this version without mods.

in response to LibratorV, the radiator springs level isn't in this game, you'd have to buy disney infinity 1.0 to play that one

Does anyone know how to get to different universes? For Example: Radiator springs from cars. Can you access it in game or do you need the pad thing with the cars crystal trophy? I remember a few years ago when i played this on XBOX, i had to put in the trophy and go to a certain area. I just need info on where to go if it is in this version of the game. Just saying I am playing on the PC just in case you need a certain console or certain actions
