Best Nvidia Freestyle Settings [DS2: SOTFS]
By Brolaire and 1 collaborators
Using the brand new Nvidia Freestlye software that comes with the experimental settings in Geforce Experience, you can make your game look much more vibrant and sharp. Darker darks, lighter lights, and so on. These settings closely imitate the visuals of how Dark Souls 2 looked at E3 when announced and has since then been downgraded. With Nvidia Freestyle, you can recreate those stunning visuals with a 0% chance of being banned as these are just filters over the game, not editing the files or memory whatsoever.

How To
To enable, go into Geforce Experience, make sure it's fully updated, and turn on experimental features and the Nvidia overlay in the settings. Some may have to restart their game and/or computer for these changes to go into full effect. Now, while in game, press alt+F3 to open the settings menu for Nvidia Freestyle. Use this album of pictures for what settings to use in the first picture and the rest being comparison shots of the filters on and off.

If you click on the picture album below, the imgur link, look at the very first picture. The settings are to the left all on the one screen shot. Just open the overlay (alt+F3), click the setting you want to change, add it to the list to customize it, and use the values shown in the very first picture. You need to edit Details, SpecialFX, Exposure, and Color. All those need to be added to the filter list and edited.

Be aware that restarting the game turns off the filters, so each time you start the game, you will need to alt+F3 and turn them back on; click on 1, 2, or 3, whichever preset you put your settings under. You can even set a hotkey to automatically apply your prefered preset. Just just press alt+Z when the Nvidia Overlay is turned on and go into the settings (sprocket/gear looking icon), then into hotkeys. Any other questions, feel free to comment below and I will reply as soon as I can. Enjoy!

Troubleshooting
1. "Game is too yellow/gold for my taste"

To reduce the discoloration, tone down the "Color Enhancement" setting. This emphasizes the gold/yellow aspect of the game as well as fire texture, mostly anything near a yellow color. I personally prefer the setting I use in my guide, but others might not, which I understand completely.

2. Alt+F3 Overlay Not Coming Up/Showing When Using Fullscreen

Press alt+enter to go into windowed mode if you are in fullscreen mode and then press alt+F3, see if it works. If so, apply your settings in the overlay and click done when finished. Now while back in the game, press alt+enter again to go back into fullscreen mode. Sometimes the overlay doesn't want to work if the game is in fullscreen for some reason, but this is my current solution.

3. Overlay still won't come up

The best advice I can give is to make sure your drivers are updated, Geforce Experience is fully updated, and you have experimental features turned on in the settings of Geforce Experience. On top of all that, make sure to restart your game or even computer after all that is done and try then. If it STILL doesn't work, I really don't know a solution then. But if anyone finds a solution, let me know and I will update this.

4. When trying to use alt+F3 overlay, you get the message "A supported game is required to use this feature"

Restart your game. If that doesn't work, restart your computer. I know it sounds repetitive now, but it truly works.

5. Alt+F3 overlay USED to work, but now doesn't come up or says "A supported game is required to use this feature"

This happened to me recently after updating my Nvidia driver to the latest version. The only solution I could find was to CLEAN reinstall the driver. Clean meaning a 100% wipe and reinstall. This will wipe the majority of your Nvidia settings and driver profiles, except your freestyle filter settings which is fortunate, and a few other settings, but not much. I tried reinstalling without wiping but it didn't work. To do a clean reinstall of the driver after you've updated it to the latest version, go into Geforce Experience and click the "Drivers" tab near the top left. Now, click on the 3 dots on the right side of the window of your selected driver (under "Check For Updates") and click reinstall driver. Next, click custom installation, this will allow you do to a CLEAN reinstall specifically. Let the installer load a bit and allow it to make changes to your device if User Account Control pops up, which it might or might not depending on your computer security settings. Once a checklist box pops up, make sure everything is checked in the list to reinstall everything (recommended), and MAKE SURE to click and check "Perform a clean installation". Once everything is checked, go ahead and click install. This might take some time to complete as it is uninstalling all your drivers, resetting your settings and profiles, and then reinstalling everything back. Once this finishes RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, I can't emphasize this enough. Restarting will make sure eveything is installed 100% and gets rid of any temporary files left over after installing. Now, once your computer is booted back up, launch DS2:SOTFS and the Alt+F3 overlay should work now. Best part, your freestyle filter settings should still be there, no need to re-apply them, at least they were still there for me. Hopefully this works for you, as it did for me 1st try.

i honestly can't tell a difference in the screenshots you posted, maybe if the original game was side by side. but it looks the same to me from memory

Looks like one of those ENB post processing things which always have way too much contrast, bloom and DoF. All it's missing is some anime tiddies

Yeah, a 'recent' update has moved and removed certain sliders. So a update on this by someone would be great. Tried doing it myself, but cant quite get it right.

Record a video and upload it. Pictures just don't have the same effect as seeing a glorious picturesque view in motion
