Foreword
Dark Sector is one of those games that, for some reason, have not seen the amount of attention and praise that they deserve. Since you've discovered and picked up this hidden gem, you'll have surely noticed that there are no Steam Achievements for it, but the game still retains its in-game Achievement functionality, a treat for all self-described Completionists out there. This guide should help you with one of the trickier Achievements: Master Researcher, which requires you to collect all Weapon Upgrades found in the game.

A Few Points Concerning the Achievement:

  • Players should note that to unlock the Master Researcher Achievement, all Weapon Upgrades have to be collected in one consistent playthrough. Therefore, missing even a single pickup from the sequence usually means a restart for the given Chapter, something quite aggravating, especially on the higher difficulty levels.
  • Fortunately, the achievement doesn't require the Weapon Upgrades to remain in the Inventory, they just need to be collected. By that, Players should be able to apply and sell the collected upgrades without any problems.
  • The game's story consists of 10 Chapters, with Chapters 2 - Exposure, through 9 - Threshold Guardian, containing all the Weapon Upgrades. Chapter 1 - Prologue and Chapter 10 - Dark Sector, have no Weapon Upgrades for you to collect.
Chapter 2 - Exposure
  • 2.1 Fire Rate (1/37)

    1. After a short gunfight agaist a few Lasrian Troopers, you will gain the Steal ability for the Glaive. This ability will generally allow you to pickup items out of your reach and you will find yourself using it plenty of times during the course of the game, especially when collecting Weapon Upgrades. After you first use this ability to pickup a charge of C4 to open a metal door where the gunfight took place, you will enter the building it leads into.

    2. Immediately after entering the building you will face a long corridor, with a door to the far right. You will notice a large hole in the wooden floor at the end of the corridor, and beyond it, the very first Weapon Upgrade in the game.

    3. Because of the aforementioned hole in the floor you'll have to use the Glaive's Steal ability to collect the Fire Rate Weapon Upgrade.

  • 2.2 Fire Power (2/37)

    1. After a while, you will reach a warehouse, where you will face a large number of Lasrian Haz-mat and regular Troopers. At some point, the Colossus, a colossal, highly evolved Infected, will crush into the area and will attack you and your foes alike. Eventually though, it will cease its attack, allowing you to explore the ravaged battlefield it leaves behind. Outside and facing the warehouse, or whatever is left of it, to the left, you will notice an arched balcony.

    2. On said balcony, you will find the next Weapon Upgrade kit, Fire Power. Since it's out of your reach, you'll have to use the Glaive's Steal ability again.

Chapter 3 - Baggage Claim
  • 3.1 Accuracy (3/37)

    1. Right after obtaining the Glaive's Power-Throw ability, you will find a chained gate blocking your path. After using the aforementioned ability to unlock the gate, you will notice a military field tent, with some radio chatter coming from it.

    2. Inside the tent, right next to the radio, you will find the Accuracy Weapon Upgrade.

  • 3.2 Fire Power (4/37)

    1. After moving to the underground corridors, you will come across a room where you'll have to open a mechanical door to proceed.

    2. To the left of the aforementioned door, you will notice a large turbine.

    3. Between the turbine and the room's wall. you will find the Fire Power Weapon Upgrade. You won't be able to reach it because of the fence surrounding the turbine, so use your Glaive to pick it up.

  • 3.3 Double Shot (5/37)

    1. Eventually, you will reach an office with a chainlocked elevator.

    2. To the right from the entrance, there two sets of file cabinets and in the space between them you will notice another Weapon Upgrade.

    3. This is the Double Shot Upgrade, which you should pick it up before entering the elevator.

  • 3.4 Clip Extender (6/37)

    1. The elevator will take you to the building's rooftop, where you will face a large number of Lasrian Troopers. On the left-hand side of the area, you will notice a door leading down to one of the attics you'll find here.

    2. After descending into that attic, you will notice a couple of cable spools to the right, and beyond, you will find the Weapon Upgrade.

    3. Since the spools block your access to the Clip Extender Weapon Upgrade, you will have to use the Glaive once again.

Chapter 4 - Moths To The Flame (Part I)
  • 4.1 Puncture (7/37)

    1. A short ways from the beginning of the Chapter, you will come against a strongpoint of Lasrian Troopers, full with a machine gun emplacement. After clearing said strongpoint, you will encounter a set of large stone steps beyond.

    2. From the top of the steps, you should turn left, as the entrance to the building on the right takes you to the next instance of the level, causing you to miss the Weapon Upgrade. On the left corner of the plaza across from that entrance, you will find an alcove with a quarantined door.

    3. To the left of the door, in the alcove, you will find a Puncture Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.2 Reload Speed (8/37)

    1. After entering the aforementioned building, you will come across a courtyard where you will be initially attacked by a wave of Howlers. Once the courtyard is clear, you will see that your path is blocked by a net of black biological matter.

    2. To the right of the black mass, you will see that you're able to enter under the colonnade surrounding the courtyard.

    3. Going down that part of the colonnade, right behing the first corner you will find a Reload Speed Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.3 Fire Rate (9/37)

    1. Shortly after exiting the building, you will encounter a Lasrian Military outpost. Once cleared, head towards the pair of field tents next to a tree.

    2. You will notice that its possible to enter the gap between the right tent and the nearby wall, right behind the tree.

    3. Between the tent and the wall, you will find a Fire Rate Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.4 Stopping Power (10/37)

    1. After entering the next instance of the level, where you start behind a Lasrian Haz-Mat Trooper manning a machine gun, you will come against a large contingent of Lasrian Troopers in the outpost across. Once the area is clear, move to the right of where you first started, along the walkway on which the machine gun is nested, where you will see one of those concrete bench-plant box structures.

    2. Behind the bench-plantbox, right next to some supply crates, you will find a Stopping Power Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.5 Accuracy (11/37)

    1. The next one is easily missable. Traversing the large wooden mansion where you'll be burning several black biomass patches blocking your path, you will eventually make your way to a staircase leading to a large attic.

    2. You will know you're in the right place because you will notice several fallen Lasrian Troopers lying near the top of the stairs.

    3. Standing on the top of the stairs, look to your left. You will see that the wooden supports of the roof form a blockade that keeps you from approaching the edges of the attic. This is where you need to head, but make sure you don't wander too deep into the attic, as this will activate a cutscene and cause you to miss the Weapon Upgrade.

    4. Once you're standing against the wooden supports, look to the left corner, where you will find the Accuracy Weapon Upgrade.

Chapter 4 - Moths To The Flame (Part II)
  • 4.6 Fire Rate (12/37)

    1. After the cutscene, you will find yourself back on the streets. Right from where you begin, look to the building with the scaffolding infront of it. You'll need to head behind its left corner.

    2. There you will find the Fire Rate Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.7 Enferon Shells (13/37)

    1. At some point, you will encounter the ruins of what seems to have been a chapel.

    2. Inside the ruins, you will find an altar with the Enferon Shells Weapon Upgrade, right next to a small statue.

  • 4.8 Reload Speed (14/37)

    1. In the cemetery, you will have to open a valve in order to light a set of torches to burn a patch of black biomass blocking your path. The search for the valve will lead you to a mausoleum.

    2. In the central circular room, you will see an arched doorway leading to an eerily lit back room.

    3. In the left corner from the entrace to the aforementioned room, you will find the Reload Speed Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.9 Puncture (15/37)

    1. Leaving the cemetary, you will find yourself exiting a tunnel to a plaza, where you'll see a patrolling Jackal attacked by the Colossus, before it retreats to a nearby church.

    2. As you exit the tunnel, look toward the far right corner of the plaza. Next to the crater in the centre, you will notice a concrete plant box.

    3. Behind the plant box, you will find the Puncture Weapon Upgrade.

  • 4.10 Upgrade Slot (16/37)

    1. Once you descend down to the churches cellar, you will need to enter the room behind the door shown in the screenshot below. This will trigger a cutscene, after which you will be put in a short timed sequence, you should therefore be prepared to complete the next steps as quickly as possible.

    2. From where you start, in the very same room, there is a doorway to the right. Enter it.

    3. In that room, on top of a couple of wooden crates, you will find the Upgrade Slot Weapon Upgrade.

  • 5.2 Double Shot (18/37)

    1. Before you proceed, it would be good to clear out some nautical terminology to avoid confusion.

      • Bow: The front end of a ship.
      • Stern: The rear end of a ship.
      • Port: When looking towards the bow, the left side of the ship.
      • Starboard: When looking towards the bow, the right side of the ship.

Once you find yourself on the freighter, you will be at its bow and you will need to proceed towards its stern. Eventually, you will drop down to the main loading area.

    2. While still on the side of the loading area where you dropped down, move towards the port side and once you reach the edge, look towards the bow.

    3. Between the stacks of crates infront of you, you will find the Double Shot Weapon Upgrade.

  • 5.3 Fire Power (19/37)

  • 5.4 Upgrade Slot (20/37)

    1. This Weapon Upgrade is obtainable during another timed sequence, as you'll be escaping the sinking freighter, but you will have plenty of time, as long as you remained focused. At some point, you will open a mechanical door. Moving through that door, you will find yourself at the bottom of a staircase. The first level it leads to is the exit, so make sure you don't go through the first door just yet.

    2. Turn around and proceed to the second level.

    3. Next to the closed door, you will find the Upgrade Slot Weapon Upgrade.

Chapter 6 - The Bait
  • 6.1 Accuracy (21/37)

    1. Once you move through the gate, you will find yourself in the same area you were in Chapter 2, before you moved underground. Right infront of you, you will notice a field tent.

    2. Inside the tend, you will find the Accuracy Weapon Upgrade.

  • 6.2 Enferon Shells (22/37)

    1. Afterwards, you will enter what seems to be a sprawling train station lobby.

    2. You will notice a table to the right of a mount of metal crates and concrete blocks.

    3. On that table, you will find the Enferon Shells Weapon Upgrade.

  • 6.3 Stopping Power (23/37)

    1. In the large waiting area , where you will be attacked by a pack of Stingers and eventually the first Cyber-suit Trooper in the game, take the steps to the right from where you enter.

    2. Once you're up the steps, you will see a set of benches to your left.

    3. Next to the crate with the two small ladders, you will find the Fire Power Weapon Upgrade.

  • 7.2 Stopping Power (25/37)

    1. Eventually, you will enter a train depot, where you'll be attacked by Stingers and Chromas (the small, blue, glowing Infected that can turn invisible).

    2. At the other end of the train tracks from where you entered the depot, you will notice some space that allows you to move between the train tracks.

    3. Once you do, you will need to go down the tracks again.

    4. There, you will find the Stopping Power Weapon Upgrade.

  • 7.3 Upgrade Slot (26/37)

    1. This Weapon Upgrade is easily missable, so once you find yourself in the area show in the screenshot below, pay attention.

    2. You need to move onto the train tracks, just beyond the brick pillars.

    3. Once you do, turn around and look up; there is a walkway with the Weapon Upgrade on it.

    4. Since you won't be able to reach this Upgrade Slot Weapon Upgrade, use your Glaive to pick it up.

  • 7.4 Puncture (27/37)

    1. Once you find yourself outside again, make your way to where the train tracks turn left.

    2. To the right of the tracks, there is a small derailed engine. On top of it sits the Puncture Upgrade. Use your Glaive to grab it.

  • 7.5 Clip Extender (28/37)

    1. Fighting your way through the train tunnels, you will eventually vault over two machine guns to reach the collapsed end of this tunnel, where you will be attacked by a swarm of Stingers, Chromas and Howlers.

    2. At the very end of this tunnel, there is a small room that you won't be able to reach.

  • 7.7 Stopping Power (30/37)

    1. Inside the factory, you will eventually enter a large machine room. You will know you're in the right place, if you notice that you have entered the area from a walkway.

    2. On the other side of the room, there is another walkway; next to a door there, you will see the Weapon Upgrade.

It's a shame there are no steam achievements considering the original game had them. The guides super helpful for my completionist ass but I'd love to get all the achievements and put this on my steam profile, such a hidden gem.
