Campain Basics.

Generally speaking, the campaign runs along certain trends that you should know about.

1. Increased dissent: Every round two cities will dissent, no there is nothing you can do about it.
2. Darkness: Darkness will happen, there is nothing you can do about it, though events do occur that will cause it.
3. Drought: Drought will happen, there is nothing you can do about it. As above, there is nothing you can do about it
4. Organized Rebellion: This is rare, but it does happen. One round, between five and six cities will revolt in an 'organized rebellion' event. No you cannot stop this from happening.
5. Monsoon. Rain happens, a lot. This is mostly good because growth can happen during this time
6. Plage: Plagues happen every round starting around turn 3 or 4. You cannot stop it.
7. Nothing. not a lot happens that is descernable. about a third of your games will be unevental, these usually are the most successful games you have.

Some things you should know about tactical map situations.
What is Growth?: Population=resources at end of round. Growth=increase in population.

Darkness: Things are DARK (but not really). The underworlders come up and attack in specifric events that attack population that can leave your cities in ruins. Special underworld missions happen during darkness

Drought: It's dry! Growth is negative for some cities... or it won't go down at all. Several items do not work during Drought. This should be the one you try to avoid as best you can because unlike darkness, there is no good that can come from it.

On to mission types.
generally speaking there aren't many differences between the missions. They all have positive and negative consequences with a bonus.

Possible rewards:
1: Resources. Loot. Generally speaking this is actually more important then you think.
2. Items. Despite "common" "Uncommon" and "rare" categories, you CAN get rare items in 'common' drops and common drops in 'rare'. While they are an ugly example of loot boxes, it's the only effective way to get more Aztez.
3. Aztez. Rare recruitment missions can get you more Aztez.
4. End world effects of Drought or Darkness. Special events can undo drought or darkness.
5. Enter underworld. WELCOME TO HELL BABY!
6. City Joins/City remains/City remains neutral. self explanitory
7. Prevent assassination. Occasionally, late game, mid tier bosses will try to assassinate your aztez because the devs are lazy as ♥♥♥♥ and decided to find the worst possible way to distract you when things are getting bad.
8. City isn't left in ruins via plague/underworlders, etc.
9. Weapons unlocked, this will be described more in the weapon section.

Generally speaking the rewards are self explanitory. You will learn that Resources are REALLY important because you use them to remove dissent and add cities.

Dissent: Because just like any populated area, it has a bunch of team killing jerks who don't like you to have nice things. Occasionally neutral (and if events aren't prevented, your own) cities will dissent. If the dissent spreads to your captial, game over. This is a good mechanic with a TERRIBLE design because the map is so small. The ONLY way to remove them is with your handy-dandy assassin, special and rare missions or a cutthroat item. There will be situations where you simply cannot stop dissent before it hits your captial. It's rare, but it can happen. The best thing you can do is to stop them early and often.

Adding cities and building an empire: There are three ways to add cities. First and best is special and somewhat common missions, followed by item cards, followed by outright paying for them. You should ALWAYS try to control the entire map simply because it gets you the most resources, but actually doing so is pretty tough. If you are lucky and get the right loot boxes you can do it and unlock the emperor fight.

Minions
Your Minions:
Noble Daughter: Can be used to buy a city. You will use this a lot. if you have spare resources and there is no dissent, buy as many cities as you can. removes dissent missions from cities if used as well

Assassin: removes dissent. Kill em early, kill em often, kill em asap.

Conjurer: Creates two random items. useful as hell late game to replenish aztez.

General: Prevents the spread of dissent. Can also block (sometimes) one action of the invaders.

Every time you use them, they get more expensive. Try to save the Conjurer and General for later, since they are more useful late game.

Items and Weapons
Items:
Obelisks: Increase population of cities. Has 4 tiers. use them as you get them ASAP. can be used to populate ruined cities.

Cutthroats, Princesses and Military Detachments: Free use of your minions. Use them as needed, but princesses should be used ASAP. Military detachments should be saved until the invasion to buy you time.

Aztez: gives you an aztez. use asap.

Icons and Birbs: these will undo drought and darkness. Use if needed.

Big stack-o-gold: removes an action of the invaders. used if you need to buy time.

Twilight Grove: Used to enter the underworld. Generally useless unless you are talented at fighting and want extra resources faster

Ball of Light: Gives you a treasure mission. Use when you can

Ball: Creates special festival of carnage events which have some of the best stuff. Kill other warriors and take their stuff. Use when you have a spare aztez and hope for an easy bonus

Fertility symbol: Creates a fertility festival. Same as ball, but increases population by destroying the population.

Spider trap/fake map: Reduces population or destroys a settlement. These are useless. there is NO reason to EVER use this. If there is, let me know. Possibly to end dissent the hard way.

Magic Dice: GIves you one of six possible results: 21 resources, aztez, Jade bead(special high risk high reward mission), darkness, drought, and moon obelisk

Poision/bribery: removes a mission from the map. useful for missions that cause bad consequences if left unattended

Taxman: removes a city for some resources. Generally useless, as you need every city you can get your hands on

Nobles orders: removes an aztez for resournces. Useless as ♥♥♥♥.

Petals of the Creator: Respawns new missions. Useful if you don't like what spawned.

Invaders Plate: reduces damage from spanish rifles. You can get more then one of this.

Conch: If your aztez dies, another can spawn to keep fighting. Useful.

Blessing of Tlaloc: Recovers all HP if it goes to zero. Amazing.

God items: lets you use the different gods. Luck and War are generally the best, the others are generally useless.

Cosmetics: Just that, cosmetics.

Weapons.

Some weapons are great, others are just plain useless.

Sword: Your bread and butter. Get to know how to use this, inside and out. This will be what you beat all your bosses with until you get the Gauntlet or Rifle. Plain and simple it's the best balanced weapon until the power of the later end weapons overcomes it. Even then you may find yourself switching back from them because it's just so versitile. It's infinite combo is easy as spit to do as well. Use if you want to make any progress in the game. Use if you are an anarcho-capitalist

Knife: Fast, furious, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless. It's visual unimpressive, damage is pathetic and it's gimmic is irritating to use unless you like multi-tasking to the point of insanity. When late game enemies arrive, you are generally bent over a barrel and mauled by your own pig sticker. In effect, it's a fun little tool against anythig that doesn't have a shield, or isn't faster then you. use if you are a masochist.

Spear: Not too bad a weapon, but an example of the Dev's not realizing what a spear is for...which is keeping the enemy at a distance. Instead you somehow get a SPEAR with shorter hit range then a SWORD. Think about that. Really what makes this cool is it's down+attack, which lets you move like eagle warriors. Useful for the underworlders because you suddenly have more mobility then they do, but useless against jaguar warriors because your low attack is useless. Use if you want a change or if you are a communist.

Club: The most utterly pointless and useless weapon in the game with the most fundamentally stupid mechanics I have ever witnessed. Since when does hitting ground=making ground six feet in front of you explode? Why do your clubs fail to bypass shields when the enemies can? In effect, it's a cumbersome, slow, stupidly built weapon that has a tiny hit window, mechanics designed on the cutting room floor of a bad anime, and can't penetrate enemy shields. The devs should really be ashamed. Not even really a weapon and won't be mentioned because you should NEVER use it. Use only if you have NO OTHER CHOICE or you believe the world is flat.

Fists: Unlockable late game against the Chichimaya warlord mission. Extremely fast, extremely easy to chain attacks, extremely easy to get combos, doesn't do a lick of damage whatsoever. It's great for getting those 70 hit combos, but since it's easy to get that even with the clumsiest of weapons, it's fun and forgotten. Used if you are a genuine anarchist.

Claws: Obtained by the Legendary Underworlder. Enter the Underworld during darkness, and ONLY from the special "Enter Underworld" mission. Trees won't cut it. Finally something that actually has some value. Fast, lethal and all about DPS. You give up the shield for the benefit of ALL OUT RIP AND TEAR. The best part about these is the sacrifice animation, but realize you get less blood for each sacrifice. You can ONLY counter, so use your speed and easy chain to your advantage. Useful against un-shielded enemies or small numbers of enemies. Use if you think the enemy is huge, and has huge guts. use if RIP AND TEAR.

Gauntlet: Obtained by killing the emperor. Welcome to godhood. It is a throwup between the rifle and these for all out cheese in the game. You have an answer to just about any enemy and the amount your are slowed down isn't much of a hinderance. You have range, melee and an easily chained huge damage attacks. Takes some skill to master but you can beat almost anything with this. Every attack is useful in some way and you can even turn enemies into weapons. Use if you want to hit one enemy with another enemy with lethal effect and believe in becoming the Calif instead of the Calif.

Spaniard Rifle: Reach out and kill something. You get one shot and it hurts anything it hits. Bosses die to it, scrubs die to it. Everything dies to it. Spaniards HATE it because you can fire and reload faster then they can, and you have the same mobility as a sword, which gives you a lot more safety then the Gauntlet when it comes to speed. You can actually ESCAPE a corner-beat down and get some distance. You can win the game with this weapon but getting combo chains is all but impossible. Use if you are a meritocratic capitalist and like shooting the bullies that tormented your childhood.
Enemies
you will encounter several enemies along your travels. here is a quick overview.

Scrubs: General sword weilding enemies with two attacks. Wood for the chipper.

All other enemies have between three and five teirs.

Eagle Warrior: Spear using, fast moving jerks. Generally easy to kill since they have no shield. Their signature move is a diagonal flying charge and they can move around the screen quickly. The highest teir is the legendary boss at fourth teir, but most if not all of their attacks can simply be blocked.

Fist Fighters: Generally speaking, one step up from scrubs. They have NO defense and give it up for combo attacks. These guys have sync attacks, but are pretty easy to kill since they have no shields. If you really want to be a ♥♥♥♥ to them, use gauntlets or rifles, but swords are perfectly fine for killing them.

Underworld fighters: found generally in the underworld or in darkness. Fast, double attacks and jumping attacks. They only have three tiers but the Legendary underworlder is a righteous ♥♥♥♥ to fight. Expect to lose a lot to him before getting the claws. Best bet to win? Learn his pattern and be a good parry artist.

Priests: How the ♥♥♥♥ did the spaniards ever win when there were floating people with mystic powers? Seriously what the hell? Generally speaking they are weak on their own and easy to kill, but if you are knocked into one of their attacks (which is quite easy since many enemies have sync attacks that are impossible to stop), you are dead. Be careful, they have daggers, and their bigger attacks can knock off half of your health. They have a fifth teir, the emperor himself.

Sword and Board fighters: Usually the first shield fighters you will encounter. Shields are a pain because it doesn't matter if you are facing someone closer, if your attack hits his shield it does zero damage to ANYONE. Meaning the shields protect things that are even in front of them. The best way to kill them is with the sword, claws, gauntlet or rifle. They have a good sync attack which also puts you in the way of other enemy attacks too. The highest teir is four, at legendary.

Jaguar Warriors: These bastards are an example of why the devs hate you, and want you to suffer. Shielded with attacks that are A. Stupid as ♥♥♥♥ visually and B. can ONLY be parried, they are a major problem and usually the first things you kill when encountered. Swords are your best bet before you get the gauntlet or rifle. Highest teir is four and legendary.

Spaniards: irritating because their allies make fighting them enormously difficult. If you are hit by one of the other enemies it can stun you long enough to get shot, and that SUCKS. If they are alone, it's pretty easy to avoid their attacks, but ALL of their attacks hurt. Fight them with EXTREME care, and laugh at them when you have the Gauntlets or Rifle. Have three tiers, highest being Cortez himself.

Plague victims: Kinda like scrubs but don't fight back.
Tips and Tricks
1. Start campaigns with goals in mind, like getting a specific weapon or boss. Don't waste time on failed campaigns.

2. Aztez are gold, never throw them away.

3. Don't waste your time with the knife, club, spear, or fists. The best weapons are the claws, sword, rifle and gauntlet. Eventually you will just focus on the gauntlet and rifle, with the sword as backup.

4. Always aim to conquer the map.

5.Things do get easier with better weapons, don't get too discouraged or angry (i got really angry all the time).

6. Yes, the devs were really lazy at times and the map is WAY too small to really enjoy the mechanics of the game, but they may be releasing more stuff.

7. Do not be afraid to run the ♥♥♥♥ away from a hoarde, and try to avoid being surrounded.

8. learn to parry.

9. Learn shield cancelling for all weapons.

10. Kill jaguar warriors first, unless you have the rifle, then kill everything first.

11. costumes have no affect beyond the aesthetic. Aim for getting the weapons.

12. There are two ways to getting the rifle. Either winning the 'last' mission, or as an 'invader item' from an invader mission.

Hi CatQueen!

It's because the club, even after six years, still sucks compared to the other options you have.

Also, the devs openly stated they would accept Chinese money for their products instead of actually creating something that could sell on it's own merit. Consider that before buying.

Look I get this is an old guide but what's with the club hate? I main that thing. It can literally kill the fastest of any weapon (though generates very small combo counts) you can literally just knock an enemy into the air, and do A A guard A A guard repeat and even staggered miniboss enemies will go into their next phase after like a few seconds of that. Down A into dash B can be used to deal with shields or you could just like, swap off the club for a single second to use a proper down attack.

The Emperor can only be fought with specific campaign circumstances met.

"Gauntlet: Obtained by killing the emperor." - But where can I find the Emperor?

Ultimate spear combo vs sheilds: grab combo, launch them in air, mash Y, RB + Y, repeat. It kills mid teir enimies easily

Last part of other comment because shitty character limit.

I'd also consider adding in more info on the enemy tiers, or at least a general rundown of what the tiers add, such as the boosts in health for each enemy type. Also, add in a section about "generals", since they're kind of a big deal on certain missions. Y'know, the higher-tier enemy types that can spawn in reinforcement infinitely till they're killed and have hyper armor like the Spaniards? Yeah, those fuckers.

And yes I know it's been nine months since you posted this and not many people play this game, but this could be a great jumping-off point for people who are looking into playing it, since a lot of very important mechanics are literally just *skipped over* in the in-game training.

I decided to look and see if anyone else had any particular insights for this game but apparently very few people have played it. Glad I found this though. Pretty much everything in this confirmed some of my worse suspicions, but I think you underplay how much of a threat some of the enemies can be. For example, the Chichihuacans (the fisty boys) are pretty easy to kill thanks to their lack of defense and lower health compared to enemies on parallel tiers, but their "sync attacks" as you call them can really fuck things up, not to mention they have a special counter for if they get knocked down. Not to mention they have flash-step attacks whose range is rivaled only by Eagle Warriors, and since they don't announce their attacks and the game for whatever reason never seems to consider them important, they have a habit of appearing suddenly from off-screen and bitchslapping you at the worst moments.

Also, I think you brutally undersell the details on the Underworlders.
