Welcome to our guide depicting some of the basics of Modern Warfare 2. This guide will provide you with all the basic tips and tricks you will need in order to perform properly when playing online. the guide's content is as follows:

  • Weapon tips
  • Basic combat tips
  • Loadout tips

Basic combat tips
Just like any other fps game the same basic rules apply to mw2:

- Always consider the weapon of your choosing with regards to the maps on which you play. For example, don't bring a intervention on rust or a mp5 on wasteland. Although with some perks these weapons might work the most efficient way of playing would be to bring an assault on small- to medium sized maps, submachineguns on small maps and snipers and/or long range assault rifles on large maps. Beasts always operate accordingly to the maps!

- Try to move from cover to cover! Also when switching or reloading weapons the best thing to do is stick to cover and maybe crouch or prone. A Beast is never caught reloading or swithing weapons!

- Learn the maps! Depending on the gun you are carrying and the mode you play, a solid knowledge of all maps will reward you in the end! No Beast is ever seen carrying a map as he goes!

- Keep increasing your mouse sensitivity! No one should have to move his mouse three times over a pad to get that annoying player in his crosshairs.

- DON'T RUSH! - Keep calm and stay Beast! Never be too eager, especially in open maps.

- Always keep an eye on your radar. It should become a second nature to you're already beastly nature.

After playing for a while try and find out which weapon class and specific gun suits your playing style. If you are a rusher for example, I'd suggest you don't go around carrying a MG4.
Weapon Tips Part 1
What weapon can we use to "Beast"? This is the question we should be answering in this section. One can imagine that the UMP is a considerable good candidate for this answer. However, we propose a different kind of weapon.

The Famas
This weapon is very suitable for "beasting". But, it requires you to play a gaming style that demands you to remain at the back of your team.

  • One Volley at a time
The gun itself has a slow fire ratio, but fires three bullets in one volley, with the accuracy of a sniper rifle. This means that as long as your aim is at the enemy, one volley will be sufficient for a kill.

  • Attachment
Many MW2 players use a Red-dot or Holographic as an attachment to this gun. This is highly recommended as the crosshair of these attachments enable you to improve the sight of the area of impact, and increases the overall sight while you are aiming down the sights.

Gaming Style
The gaming style that is required for this gun can often be called "camping" but don't worry about that. It is a combination of tactical positioning and "camping", something we've discussed in the previous section.

  • Camping?

Whenever it is necessary to move forward you will move forward, but only get positions in which you have a wide overview of your surroundings. This is ESSENTIAL with this gun and the belonging tactic. If you do not follow this gaming style the FAMAS will not be useful at all.

  • Behavior

An example to display how to behave in a match. From the start of, your tactical position is support for your team. Start by picking a spot that has a wide overview of the map, with one or two flags in sight (For example in Skidrow, stay back at the building at C).

If enemies aren't moving forward and your team is, move with them, but stay at the back. Keep aiming down the sight, hipfire is almost useless. Remain patient, and check your map and UAV whenever possible for enemy contacts. (Check the Combat Tactics for more info)

Then, it is pretty easy, everytime someone pops up, put a volley on him, but do not become to eager to kill a player, if he runs away, don't follow, but keep oversight.

Loadout

Start trying this tactic and you will definitely succeed. But with what weapon loadout will you be rewarded mostly?

  • Perks
Usually you'd want sleight of hand for faster ADS and quick reloading, but for this tactic Scavenger Pro can be of good use. It depends on whether you want to move forward more quickly (sleight of hand) or stay put for a longer time (Scavenger).

Secondly, stopping power is required, only then will one volley be enough for a kill (or multiple kills). I would recommend using stopping power, but cold-blooded pro is also suitable if you want to hide and stay put more often.

Thirdly, steady aim Pro is very useful for holding your breath longer with Thermal, if you don't use thermal, I think SitRep is a good alternative for recognizing where opponents hide and well.. who wants to step into a claymore.

  • Attachments
As I said, Thermal is a good option for staying at the back. Some say, that it is useless, as you will zoom to much and you will not recognize enemies quickly. Both are untrue, zooming and recognizition can be learned (QUICKLY). Especially in maps such as Underpass (which is darker) or Estate Thermal will give you solid results.

Another reason for using Thermal is the ability to hold your breath, as in Sniping, it gives you lower recoil and higher accuracy.

  • Secondary Weapon
This is less relevant, as you would be using FAMAS mosly. When your second perk is stopping power I would recommend USP or SPAS for close combat. With cold-blooded Pro I would say, grab a Stinger, just to support or team.

Weapon Tips Part 2
What weapon can we use to "Beast"? This is the question we should be answering in this section. This time we will be reviewing the Spas.

Why the SPAS shotgun and not any other shotgun? Well, the spas is a pump-action shotgun with:

  • High damage
  • Reasonable Range compared to other shotguns
  • Easy Ammo handling (one bullet at a time)

The gaming style at which this gun is most applicable is often referred to as "aggressive". Therefore we will discuss this style and the particular loadout that requires people to succeed with this gun.

Gaming Style
The gaming style is usually aggressive. This means that a player usually rushes to flags, or enemy positions and is less carefull for tactical positions.

However, to succeed, rushing with a shotgun is in itself is not a good tactic. Running pointlessly towards enemies without care for your environment will not get you a good k/d.

  • Aware of your Environment

With the SPAS, you have to be conscious about your surroundings. Is there a "broken car", bushes, some random scrap, a low wall, or even better you can remain inside a building. Use these objects to protect yourself, only expose yourself when the enemy is close enough for a direct one hit kill.

A good enemy will recognize that you have a shotgun, and will try to remain at a distance, but still you can use objects to hide behind and get close.

  • Rush or What?

So, actually the gaming style is a combination of rushing and carefullness. Moving quickly from object to object, getting closer to your enemy, but remaining out of the enemies sight.

Try to use aiming down the sights to improve accuracy and it gives you the opportunity for little exposure as you can hide behind low walls or cars and still fire.

All this makes good sense, but it is pretty hard to use, players tend to focus on the enemy, and forget the surroundings. Now, you will have to be extra carefull for surroundings and enemies, but you'll have to be fast.

  • Loadout
The loadout differs, depending on map and opportunities. I would recommend using:

  • Marathon (Pro)
  • Stopping Power
  • Ninja Pro (or Sitrep Pro).
  • Holographic Aim

Instead of marathon one can also use Scavenger or Sleight of hand. Sleight of Hand Pro will give you fast ADS, this might work very well, but often speed of movement is more important than speed of aiming (one bullet does it often), and the timing of your reload is something you will get used to as well.

Instead of Stopping Power one can also use Lightweight (Pro) for faster aiming after sprint. The reason that I prefer Stopping power is because then I can kill people from longer range with 1 bullet.

  • HoloGraphic

The reason for using Holographic instead of Extended Mags or Grip is simple. Grip usually unncessary, as you use aiming down the sights for precise shots, and you can quickly add another bullet to your repository.

But why Holographic? Especially for aiming down the sights it adds significant oversight of your enemies and the background, much more than the usual iron crosshair (RED dot is also good). Plus it makes it far more easy to select a target, as long as the enemy is in the sight of the Holographic Sight, he will die, while the iron crosshair is much smaller, which requires you to select the area of impact.

See the videos below for some details on the differences between iron sights and holographic sight (for shotguns and regular weapons).

All in all, the SPAS can be a highly effective weapon when this gaming style is applied, even in bigger maps with little tight corners such as Wasteland or Derail.

There are other gaming styles that work well for the SPAS, one could imagine that using it with sleight of hand, stopping and grip results in optimal outcomes in smaller maps such as Karachi.
Weapon Tips Part 3

What weapon can we use to "Beast"? This is the question we should be answering in this section. This time we will be reviewing the FAL.

The FAL
Why the FAL? One could say that it not suitable for being a top notch weapon, as it isn't as good on close corners as the ACR, neither is it as good in close combat compared to the AK or M4A1, and it lacks the fire rate that all other Assault Rifles have. So Why the FAL? Again, a list to compile the advantages of the FAL.

  • High damage
  • Huge Range & Accuracy
  • Damage difference compared with/without stopping power is low.

These are some solid advantages, usually two clicks on your target, at any range, and you're done. But, if this gun was so superior, why are so few players using it?

Delicate Handling
Often, it feels that the gun is "out of sync" , immediately after pressing (right mouse) aiming down the sights, shooting will often result in your bullets missing targets completely.

Also, getting used to the single fire method is often hard, as you have to wait until you can click for the next bullet to fire, clicking to fast will result in less accuracy.

Limited Applicability
The FAL doesn't enjoy hip fire (at ALL). Aiming down the sights is necessary, but sometimes you are in a situation in which aiming down the sights is just not possible, and even with steady aim, you will fail miserably.

Gaming Style
Forthcoming.

Weapon recommendations and oddities.
This section will provide some insight into a couple of preselected weapons which we prefer. Our most favorable choice will always be the UMP45 due to no damage reduction when paired with a silencer! And don't forget the Spass.....always bring a Spass!!!

Scar-H

The Scar-H is a powerfull assault rifle we reccomend due to the high damage and low recoil paired with a solid iron sights you won't find on another rifle. The Scar-H is a balanced assault rifle we surely recommend using.

Tar-21

Some experienced players however prefer the Tar-21 because it sports 30-40 damage per bullet. It's only rivaled by the FAL. The Tar-21 does have increased recoil compared to the Scar-H, but when mastered the high damage output of the Tar-21 poses a big advantage.

ACR

This is one of the popular choices amongst assault rifle beasts. The ACR provides the Beast with zero recoil and high fire rate.

L86 LSW

Although not seen very often, personal experience taught that the LSW paired with a grip can be a fierce weapon when placed in the hands of an experienced beast. This is one weapon you should surely give a try. Unless you're a 12 year old kid living in a basement unable to carry this heavy light machinegun.

FAL

This is a semi automatic assault rifle which allows two hit kills at medium range. One unique perk of this weapon is that when the holographic attachement is used the minimum damage is increased. This is one of the hardest weapons to master but when done so it's extremely dangerous in the right hands.

M16A4

This weapon when paired with a holographic sight is what we'd recommend if you prefer burst weapons. The holographic sight provides less recoil and more accuracy than the FAMAS!

Final word on weapons

These are the weapons we would recommend using through experience. If you think we forgot one you find qualified for this list please keep it to yourself and go weep in the corner like the girl you are. Happy Beastin!
