ÖBB 5047/5147

From 1987, the ÖBB procured 100 pieces of the diesel railcar series 5047 from the Jenbacher Werke. This vehicle greatly increased the comfort on branch lines and due to the one-man operation also personnel costs could be saved.
Therefore, the train was also referred to as "rescuers of the branch lines".

In addition, 5 5147 twin-rail cars were procured, which in principle were 2 short-coupled 5047s.

Most of the trains are still in service today, but some have already been sold because they have been replaced by the VT 5022 (Siemens Desiro Classic).
