W.Cavalry's; Ye Olde Bayonet Guide For Men
By acbot
Apart from the art of shooting, the second most important part of this DLC for men of the lines, is the art of Bayonet fighting.

A whole bloody lot of people come on these servers not knowing how to fight because:

A.)They haven't read this or any other guides
B.)They think they can fight but use the wrong blocks

And the most important parts of learning how to fight are often ignored too oftenly. So flip the page, because I'm taking you 200 years back to the age of gunpowder and steel...Ye Olde Guide to Bayonet Fighting for Men.

Thou shalt learn how to fight like a man...
Bayonet's are the best part of the game. They're the cleanest blade out there; it's often a single thrust to finish the poor bloke on the other end.

But what if the blaggard has 200 hours in the DLC alone (like me) and counters your fateful strike, turning around with mouse sensitivity at 100% to meet you?

Then this is the guide to help you prevent that.
The Bayonet; is the weapon for a proper Soldier Gentleman. The swords are for cowards. To fight with a bayonet, like a man; 'Tis an art and like all talents-be practised for hours straight.

This guide will help you learn to prevent the 3 things all fresh recruits hate, the secret of intense bayonet fighting, and how to play your opponents mind like a devil.
Ye Olde Way To Parry
So you're a fresh recruit?

You've got three things to worry about in bayonet close quarter fighting.

1. The proper blocks.
2. The proper attack.
3. Your mouse sensitivity.

The blocks; must be practiced for a long time for become a natural instinct. The mouse movement is very important.

To block an upwards attack, you must move your mouse upwards.
To block a downwards attack, you must move your mouse downwards.

One very common mistake I suffered from was using the left block attack for a right side sword swing as a upward's block. This is actually a very simple mistake to make, and a very simple mistake to counter. To simply stop using the left block, make sure your mouse is MOVING UPWARD.

If you want to stop doing this atrocious movement, make sure to turn on 'SHOW MOUSE BLOCK DIRECTION' and the game will show which direction which you shalt move your mouse to block the attack.

This pitcure sums up nicely what happens when you use the wrong block. This french blaggard is using an overhead thrust, which must be met, by of course, an upward counter. How does one counter this attack? Move your mouse upwards.

Remember that the head is the most vulnerable area to be struck. Any man struck with any weapon in the head will die instantly. If you see your opponent charging at you, you must first assess what he is doing to find the proper block to prepare.
If he's doing this:
Then he's most likely to do an UPWARD attack, which you must prepare to counter with an UPWARD BLOCK.

If your opponent seems unsure of what he's doing, he will most likely do a lower body thrust. Make sure to move your mouse DOWNWARDS.

Surprisingly, that's all for Bayonet Countering. Easier said than done. Always practice with bots.

Ye Olde Way to Attack
Congratulations; you have just learn t how to counter Bayonet blocks. Don't mind the swords now...They'll come later, but not in this guide.

Last sections summary;
If your opponent is aiming low, this is a downwards attack. Move your mouse DOWN.
If your opponent is aiming high, this is an upwards attack. Move your mouse UPWARDS.
Make sure you really MOVE that mouse. Careful to not move it to the side, or you can accidentally do a side block. Move it where you want. Really move it.

Killing with a bayonet is the easiest part of the whole dirty lot. To kill a blaggard with a bayonet is as easy as shooting a rifle at close range. Nearly impossible.

Why?

Because the bugger will move in all sorts of directions. That is why you have to turn up your mouse sensitivity.
Your mouse sensitivity will not only let you get the corners faster, they'll let you look like a pro doing 720's while jumping over fences.

The Bayonet has TWO attacking directions. No more. No less. TWO.

The upward's stab.

The downward's stab.

As mentioned before, the upwards stab is quick and clean. Downwards is messy and if you don't take 'em out in one they might draw their own blade and cut you up before you can recover. That said, try not to show your opponent whats he's up against. Don't even left click before you reach 5 paces before him. That way, the quicker you stab, the less time he has to prepare. If he's going to see you with your blade overhead ten paces away he can ready to block it.

To upwards stab look at the sky and left click. To downwards stab look at your feet and left click. Make sure to practice this or you may leave yourself vulnerable with the wrong move.

So your charging your enemy. You reach 5 paces and upwards stab him, but he's a veteran and counters it, and gets behind you. This is where your mouse comes into play. Make sure to turn the sensitivity up to meet your enemy as he gets behind you. Usually when they get behind you, its a downward stab. Ready a downward parry.

Parry, and kick him. That's right. Press 'E' and kick him hard. One thing most melee veterans don't consider is a nice kick. Kick him, and then stab. Only kick once he have parried a important thrust and he clearly in front of you. Once he staggers back, thrust and finish him off.

That's all for killing. As always, make sure to practice.

Ye way to practise
Practice does not make perfect in Napoleonic Wars.

I guarantee you; this is NOT native. This is new game set in the early 19th century full of brutal combat and troll sappers.

People have 600 hours and still have a KDR of just 1.

To practice and sharpen your skills, host a multiplayer game and add some bots to play with. Practice your mouse sensitivity. Practice downward block and upward block. Practice kicking and stabbing.

A summary of all you've learnt.

1. Move your mouse where you want to block. Up is Up, not left Up. Down is Down. Not right Down.
2. Always charge and ready to use an UPWARD stab to finish the blaggard off quickly.
3. Keep your mouse sensitivity at HIGH and practise with it.
4. Always practise.

Now go. Off to Tropical Paradise and show off your new skills!

Aye! For it is the noble birch log that is the true weapon of gentleman, it's unrefined surface belying a proud spirit!

Harpy! Only the peasantry use such a barbaric weapon such as the bayonet, only a true lowerclassman would fight with a bayonet, it is truly a barbaric tool of war, like the Scythe

The true gentlemen's weapon is the sword!, only pig commoners use the bayonet! Men of the aristocracy and TRUE nobillity fight with the honourable way of the sword

Phh, bayonets are far inferior to bullets and swords. For a start they are harder to abuse using broken and illogical game mechanics.
