Welcome!
Whether you are a new player or a player that is rising among the ranks, welcome to the guide!

This guide will cover some of the basics and tips of how to master Project Rhombus.

First of all, what IS Project Rhombus?
Project Rhombus is a musical, rhythmic game designed to use your hand-eye coordination to survive.
The main purpose is to try and get a high score on each difficulty. All you have to do is use your arrow keys to guide your arrow inside the rhombus to point at the upcoming arrows.

Seems easy, huh? Not quite. Just wait 'til you get Expert Mode

Arrows that are
blue
flip around. The rest of the arrows are normal.

But don't give up on this game just yet, just like how Papyrus has not given up on you~

Side note: This game was inspired by Toby Fox, hence the game developer recognizing Toby Fox in his game description.
1. Play other games
Not kidding! This game was inspired heavily by Undyne's gennocide spear fight. If you haven't already, I recommend you check Undertale out! It's a great game!

Basically, play other games that have similar playstyle to adapt faster to Project Rhombus' gameplay. I recommend

  • Undertale Gennocide Run
  • 140 (Boss battle at end 3)
  • Super Hexagon
  • VOEZ/Cytus/Deemo (By Rayark)

And never forget to take breaks while playing Project Rhombus. You'll need them for extra focus once you get back on.
2. Hocus Pocus, just FOCUS!
You need a huge ton of focus for this game to get it right. Concentrate, focus on the pattern. And that doesn't mean stare at your screen, pressing arrows all day. You need breaks as well. Read a book once in a while. Lay down or meditate.

Solid Background setting
In the game's settings, you can turn on or off solid background. I was initially distracted by the flying colors all over the background, so I turned this on. To do a little experiment, I turned it back off. And guess what? My easy score has set higher!

This setting can be either-or depending on the time of day and of the atmosphere you have wherever you are playing. Turning it off has the colors centering on the rhombus, your icon. That will center the attention onto the rhombus and the arrows comin' at you.
Like in this video:

At the same time, the colors are a bit distracting and you might as well be looking at the lightshow instead of the actual game, especially when you are sleeping. I recommend turning Solid Background on during this time.

Brightness
Set the brightness of your PC/laptop to your eye's content. Don't make it too bright; the concentration will be on the colors, not the arrows.

Dance~
Groove to the music! Jiggle along with it! Crazy huh? Well, no matter. It helps you concentrate on the rhythm and the beats! (And you might even notice that Hard mode's music almost sounds like Undertale's Hopes and Dreams...or is it just me?)

Windowed
And one more thing for windowed users: open notepad, then place Project Rhombus' window on top. That way, you don't have to look at your desktop while playing.

3. Travel
Wait....why is this called travel? It's not Portal!

Gamemode
What I mean is: travel to other gameplays of the game. If you want to master the easy level, go one ot two steps up and play the medium/hard levels. You'll find out that easy is slow-mo of the two difficult levels, just different rhythm of course.

Summary: Start off with hard/expert, end off with normal/easy.

Scenery
Travel to other sceneries as well, meaning move somewhere with your device to another place. Maybe one place can help you better than your usual desk.

Listen
As you're going places, listen to the music through your phone! You'll get the hang of the beat in no time! (And you can find the music through YouTube video gameplays)

4. Have fun!
No seriously! Have fun! Video games were created to entertain and take some things off your mind. Whether you are a serious rage-quitting gamer or a player who is chill, just never forget to enjoy!

Sometimes, we do forget to enjoy especially when a bit of adrenaline is injected through the game and floods to you. Or maybe we forget to enjoy because we go for the gold. No matter what, remember that the developer had a fun time making this, and you should try to too.

"Work hard, study well and eat and sleep plenty. That's the Turtle Hermit way to learn."
— Master Roshi, the Turtle Hermit, DBZ

5. "Secrets"
You can play multiplayer! One person uses the WASD keys and the other person uses the arrow keys. Both of you try to earn high scores together!

Ooor alternatively, use both to your own advantage!

I will list more as time moves on!
Tips
Some tips that I've found.

  • Use your peripheral vision. Focus somewhere on the top...say...your score. Do not look directly at the arrows
  • Familiarize yourself with the arrow colors. It's okay to mess up
  • If you are bombarded with crazy blue arrows, smash those buttons! It ain't professional, but that's one way to try and master it!
  • Have a bottle of water or a drink near you. Stay hydrated
  • Have someone else play it for a while. Teach them the game. Both of you will learn simultaneously and become better! 2nd-hand learning.
Tips from other players
On an end note...
Note that this guide can be updated in the future when I find some new tricks to share.
I've been playing this game for a while now and yes, Undertale gennocide players have the higher advantage. Follow the arrows, and you will be fine.

And be open-minded, check out the other guides to see what they have to say. They could cover some tricks that I didn't mention. And they could also help you better to master this game.

Heck, YOU could be the next master of this game!

Good luck on this journey and may Flowey grant you mercy.

~Stay optimistic! And peace out!~

(P.S. This is the first guide I have ever made on Steam. Please post some suggestions!)

I played this game for awhile, it's a good guide! Tip from me, in the settings you can set it so the music resets after you fail, it gives you a goal to work towards: the "drop" of the song. Also, that bit of adrenaline you mentioned really makes me try hard, but after I calm down I get higher scores.
So get Pumped, calm down and stay optimistic!

Tap along to the beat with your teeth, it takes the least effort and concentration to keep up while playing.

Always keep your arm bent, otherwise it puts a feeling around the joint which can be distracting to your fingers and may reduce your coordination.

For me it seems like if I focus in the center rather than on the arrows it's a lot easier. Idk though...

I thought it was just me who assumed that the hard level's music is like hopes and dreams lol.
