Content Mishaps

"Missing Map: maps/theater_gcinema.bsp, disconnecting"

The error it self is occasional with new players — please report this to the forums[gcinema.net] as this normally is not supposed to happen.

Errors and missing textures all over the map

Our current map does not require your owning other games for content (minor exceptions might appear, mostly the Spawner items like the couch and chair, which require Counterstrike:Source at the moment). That said, if you do see missing textures and/or error models, head to http://workshop.gcinema.net and Subscribe to our content collection.

Theater Issues
  • "The screen says I have a missing plugin?"

For windows users, this means you do not have the necessary Flash Player plugin (this is the NPAPI Flash Player plugin, usually used in Firefox). Head to http://flash.gcinema.net and download the NPAPI Flash plugin, install it, then restart gmod.

  • "The screen is completely black with no errors!"

This might happen time to time; the solution is to use the !retry chat command to reconnect to us.

  • "The Theater is WAY TOO LOUD! How do I turn it down?"

Hold down the "C" key to free your mouse, then move the Volume slider on your in-game video controls to adjust the volume. If this does not seem to help, try then clicking the "Reload (F5)" button.

  • "I'm a Mac user and I'm having problems watching YouTube. What's wrong?"

A rather weird "bug" it could be called is that players using Macs might not be able to see/hear a video.

To fix this, go to any YouTube video, bring up settings on the video player, click the furthest tab to the bottom left of the window that pops up (or right click on top of the video), and UNTICK "Enable hardware acceleration".

DumboDylan has created a video guide on how to do this! -
VR Apartments
VR Apartments have been opened to all players!
Do be aware that buying a plot & editing your apartment costs coins. The editor's tool panel will show you (bottom right corner of it) how much your edits will cost.

How do I get an apartment?
Head to the Welcome desk in the very front of the Lobby and speak to the NPC on the left. You'll see a warning that this is a beta feature and to be prepared if your apartment save has problems or gets erased. Click OK, then click "Buy Plot" to purchase and name a new plot (apartment space).

Once you have created a new plot, click the "Set Active" button to make it your active apartment.

Then, head to the Elevator (Lobby exit to the left of that Apartment NPC), and choose the apartment named "Unloaded". This will load your apartment and send you over to it.

Can someone else edit or build my apartment for me?
No.

I'm here! How to I get started?
After exiting the Elevator, talk to the NPC in the apartment lobby. This will open the Apartment Editor.

How do I build my apartment?
In the Apartment Editor, you will be able to build your apartment in the VR room. There are multiple layers (floors) you can build on. Edits are saved locally (on your computer) until you upload them to our server.

The tools for building are located in a panel on the bottom-left of your screen. Hover your mouse over the tools to see their names, and left-click a tool to make the tool active. Aside from tools you also have a layer (floor) selector (up and down arrows), and at the bottom the Saving / Uploading / Exit icons, and lastly the display of your present coin balance & the cost of your edits.

To control the camera, use WASD to move and your mousewheel to zoom in/out. Use the Q and E keys to rotate your view counter-clockwise/clockwise.

To undo an action, press Ctrl + Z.

How do I save my apartment?
  • First, click the Save icon (left-most icon) at the bottom of the Tool Panel. Choose "Save".
  • Next, click the Upload icon (middle icon) at the bottom and choose "Upload to Current Plot", then wait for the upload to complete.
  • Lastly, click the Exit icon (red X, right-most icon) at the bottom and choose "Save & Quit".

How do these tools work?
Use the grid to build things or place things in your apartment.

Some tools are sizable (walls, floors, ramps, triangle floors/walls). To use them, choose the tool, left-click a point on the grid, then (while holding down left-click) drag your mouse to where you want the object to end. Release the mouse to finish. To delete these objects, right-click them.

Some tools place an object into your apartment (props, for example). To use it, choose the tool, choose an item to place, then left-click the location you want the object to be to place it there (Note for props: you must click a wall/floor/object/prop to place the prop, it can't be the VR Room itself). Then, to rotate, reposition, or delete your object, right-click the object and choose the option you want in the popup menu.

The Painter tool lets you texturize many objects: Select the Painter tool, choose a texture, then left-click or right-click an object to texturize it. Left-click will texture the side of the object facing you, and right-click will texturize the side facing away from you.

Similarly, the Picker tool will let you select a texture on objects. Like the Painter tool, left-click with select the texure on the side of the object facing you, while right-clicking with select the texture on the side not facing you.

Some tools (triangle floors/walls) you'll need to invert for your building. To invert them, hold down Shift while you are holding left-click to invert them.

The Painting tool lets you put up a pictureframe! To use this, choose the Painting tool, pick your image, then click where you want the painting to go. To scale (resize), reposition, or delete the picture, right-click it for the menu. To preserve the shape of the original picture hold down Shift when scaling it.

I can't change the camera to not look down! What should I do?
You need the Free Camera tool!

Select the Free Camera tool. Use WASD to move and your mouse to aim where you go. During Free Camera mode, you will only be able to look at your apartment or use the Painter tool.

To exit Free Camera, choose another tool, like the Walls tool.

How do I use custom images?
You can upload custom materials to use in the editor, if you are ranked Donator or above.

Images must be in PNG (.png) or JPEG (.jpg) format. Images too small or too large in dimensions (width/length) might not work, so a safe range of size is about (roughly) 128x128 to 2048x2048.

You can create folders! Drag and drop one image onto another to create a new folder and place those images inside it. You will be prompted to name the folder. To move images to a folder, drag and drop an image onto the desired folder.

To upload a custom material:
  • First, locate or upload an image on the internet and ensure it is publicly available.
You need the direct link (URL) to the image!
  • Choose the Painter tool. Navigate to the folder you'd like your texture to be.
  • On the upper-right corner of the materials panel, click the Upload button.
  • In the text box, paste (Ctrl + V) the URL to the image you want, then press Enter.
  • Your image should now show up in the preview area.
  • Click the Upload for 200 Coins button to finish your upload.

Your newly uploaded material will be located in the folder you are presently at.

How do I make a screen? ...Do I need one?
You do not need a screen to be able to play videos in your apartment (you can still use !fullscreen to view them even!).

To make a Screen, we recommend using the Painting tool (Not the "Painter" tool!).
  • Choose the Painting tool, then pick the Screen texture (Located in the "Special" folder).
  • Left-click on a surface to place the screen.
  • Right-click the screen and choose "Scale". Scale it by holding left-click & dragging.
Hold Shift if you want the screen to preserve its proper shape.
  • If you want to be able to use SeatZoom on this screen, right-click it, and choose "Set SeatZoom".

How do I add a sky to my apartment?
On the top-right corner of the tool panel, click the small map icon. This will open up the skybox settings.

How do I change the grid color?
On the top-right corner of the tool panel, click the small gear icon. You can change general settings there.

If you do get stuck, let us know (just in case people get stuck there often we can update the map to get a fix rolled out), but you should be able to respawn youself to get unstuck.
